A wonderful trip to Mt Elsey with some club members.

For a couple of them, their first time backcountry hiking and backcountry camping! 😍

If this is something you've always wanted to try, but don't have the gear or the friends with experience, send us a dm! The club and its members organize group trips occasionally, just for this purpose 😊

Follow if you love the Cariboo mountains!!!

Hey WLCA Members, the Summer Solstice is coming up!
--------> https://wlclimbing.wordpress.com/trips-events/

And with that comes beauuuutiful long evenings for climbing, followed by gorgeous sunset and then star gazing at night. What better way is there to celebrate!

We will get together over the course of Saturday and Sunday for climbing, eating, sunsets and star gazing - all in good WLCA and friends' company.

The main gathering will be Saturday evening dinner together (hopefully over a small campfire, permitting the category 1 ban isn't on), and camping that night. Climbing as a group intended for Sat afternoon/evening, and Sunday morning - but obviously people can start earlier or go later as they like.

As always, please bring your gear to be self sufficient. If you need to borrow club climbing gear, or need to carpool, please email/message in advance to request availability.

***If you are bringing food and/or camping, please be bear-aware and pack out everything you pack in; we don't want to attract rats/cougars/bears/pest animals to the area. Our club is big on LNT (leave no trace), and we want to leave our beautiful Esler Bluffs area better than we found it.

PS: If you are keen on doing any trail maintenance in the area, this is also a great weekend for it! Bring a rake and garden gloves and let us know the area you are keen to spiff up. Those putting in trail maintenance hours will be entered in a draw for a delicious prize...stay tuned for more!

WLCA Members - Let's go sport climbing and make the most of these *beautiful* long evenings as we approach the summer solstice!

This is a casual, social climbing event; no instruction is intended for this event, but bringing questions and asking for mentorship is always welcomed and encouraged!

We recommend you bring:

-bug spray (DEET FREE - DEET EATS CLIMBING GEAR)
-your climbing gear and shoes, especially your helmet plz ;)
-dinner/snacks, as we will be going late
-positivity and support for all your climbing buds!

See you there!

Summertime is officially here! Our incredible members and .n.mischief and had an amazing time teaching intro to outdoor climbing to this fabulous group last weekend.
Esler is poppin off.
WL community forest put some work into trying to keep the road drier, which is awesome.
and granted gear is getting put to excellent use.
And the club's work of getting people stoked on outdoor rec is paying dividends! Stoked to see this community growing 😁

WHAT A FUN TIME!
thanks for comin out everyone, that was a blast.
1st = Max Brine. 1st women = Marie McCallum 2nd = Riley Meszaros 3rd = Sky Alphonse
It was a narrow point spread on the podium. The average score was a whopping 161 points, which is insane. Jessica scored 158, and took home the coveted “most average” award. Riley came all the way out from Abbotsford and crushed almost every single climb for the love of the game, taking home the “most stoked” award (as well as 2nd place overall). Olen flailed at a hard climb so many times he won the “more than you can chew” award, a stainless bail link to put on his harness for when he bites off more than he can chew outside and has to retreat. Marie McCallum came out for possibly her first time climbing in 2 years to win 1st place womens on zero prep. Sky broke the beta on more than a few problems and cruised basically everything else (nice work!) and Max sent the bounty problem (the purple paddle dyno) for a bonus 5 points.

Our little gym is supported by an amazing community! We are able to buy new holds, tools, fix things, buy insurance, and buy gear to help give back to the community, all thanks to:
1) our club members! You!
2)taseko Gibraltar - we'll say more about this later, but they donated to help us up our equipment game!
3) dwb consulting is a local business who loves to support community initiatives! They gave us some money to buy some new holds, which we love! 🙏
4) tell tale signs is an excellent local sign/print shop. Reasonably priced, fast turn arounds... We'd use em anyways but they insist on giving us steep discounts on signage 🙂

Huge props! We feel so lucky to be part of this community!

SPONSOR HIGHLIGHT: Red Shred's is a local legend when it comes to supporting their community. They're our friendly neighbourhood outdoors store. Not just Bikes and Boards… we always send people there first if theyre looking for climbing gear or camping, hiking, adventure, or any other outdoor gear. They have bulk cord up to 8mm, tubular nylon webbing, carabiners, belay devices, draws, slings, some climbing shoes, hiking and mountaineering boots, tents, pads, crampons, poles, axes, etc etc etc. They back their products through personal adventure experience, and are always willing to provide beta on the Cariboo backcountry. Always excellent advice, excellent service, and incredibly helpful & accommodating!

However! If you can't find the climbing gear you need at Red Shred's (their selection is understandably small, but surprisingly useful), the next place we direct people is Climb-On Equipment (Climb-on Squamish). Theyre a super rad store in Squamish that has everything you could want and more for climbing. From stainless mallions to knifeblades to ice axes, to cams, to shoes, to guidebooks to ropes. Great online store with fast and cost effective shipping too! They have such an insane amount of climbing hardware, I honestly spend way more than I should every time I walk in. They're also super knowledgeable about climbing gear and very unpretentious so don't be afraid to give em a call if you're not sure what you need!
