Throwback to this summer's MP visit.

MP Brendan Hanley visited our STEM summer camp at the Ayamdigut Campus for a special tour.

This was our opportunity to show elected officials how hands-on STEM learning builds the vital skills that fuel Canada’s future workforce, such as digital literacy, critical thinking, and complex problem-solving.

Yesterday, we welcomed MP Brendan Hanley at our Ayamdigut Campus for a tour of the highly regarded summer camps by YukonU Youth STEAM and Trades Program.

Campers showed off some of their summer projects like a marble rollercoaster (from the Little Inventors camp), fingerprinting, gene-mapping, cyphers, and crime-scene analysis (from the Fantastic Forensics camp), and prep for "Dragon's Den" pitches (from the Entrepreneurship camp).

Another project highlight was the wood burning and trebuchet building (from the Try the Trades camp in partnership with Skills Canada Yukon)

Every year, hundreds of Yukon youth participate in the STEAM and Trades summer camps, part of the THOUSANDS who are part of overall STEAM Youth programs throughout the year.

Yukon U's Youth STEAM and Trades program is participating in BugQuest Canada this summer!

This is a national research project collecting insects from schools and community sites across Canada.

A malaise trap has been set up down the trail from Roddy's Camp, and will collect insects all season.

The first week alone it collected quite a lot of biodiversity like visible- moths, midges, stoneflies, and parasitoid wasps!

The insects will be identified using DNA barcoding.

STEAM and Trades Coordinator and entomologist Dan Hoefele will oversee the trap and would be very happy to chat bugs with anyone interested to learn more.

This is a neat opportunity for our program to engage in research and learn more about the insect biodiversity on campus.

Watson Lake camp for ages 6–11!

In partnership with Watson Lake Rec.

Over three dynamic days, participants immersed themselves in a hands-on environment focused on creativity, exploration, and practical skill-building.

From assembling and programming simple robots to constructing and testing their own mini vehicles, the camp introduced engineering principles in an engaging and interactive way.

Kids also tried wood burning, where they carefully crafted detailed designs while developing attention to detail, patience, and safe tool practices.

The experience blended science, design, and imaginative thinking.

Ending the second day of March Break camp Galactic Adventurers edition for ages 6–8 🚀

We wrapped up the day with these lovely outdoor moments, capturing a true mix of spring energy and lingering winter air.

Even with the cold still in the air, it didn’t stop the kids from heading outside to explore, move, and connect with one another.

One of the highlights was an exciting volcano eruption experiment in the snow 🌋❄️ Watching their reactions as it erupted made the chilly weather completely worth it.

A perfect ending to a day full of adventure and connection.
