We recognize this has been a difficult summer for our school communities, and our hearts are with the families, friends, classmates and staff who are grieving.

Grief can affect everyone differently, and there is no right or wrong way to process a traumatic event. We encourage students, families and staff to reach out for support if they need it.

Support is available:

🔹Kids Help Phone is available 24 hours a day at 1-800-668-6868 or by texting CONNECT to 686868.

🔹School Wellness Specialists are available throughout the summer. To connect with a School Wellness Specialist, email [email protected].

🔹Learn about the mental health and wellbeing supports available for students and families: yukon.ca/en/education-and-schools/kindergarten-grade-12-curriculum/supporting-students-school/learn-about-supports-families-and-students

Please continue to check in with your family and friends. No one should feel they need to navigate this alone.

A workshop by our very own Aislinn Cornett!

Join us in a peer support space co-facilitated by Aislinn and myself to be gently guided through the ways you might explore your experience of brain injury via different mediums. While it isn’t a space to get the 1:1 support of an art therapist, it is an opportunity for you to dip your toe in and see what it feels like to express these things in a creative way while learning some ways to exercise that. We will drop in with a short mindfulness practice and from there Aislinn will guide us into exercises that encourage our creative expression. Open studio space will follow with the support of Lis and Aislinn nearby.

Taking place at LDAY on August 19th and September 30th from 6:00-7:30pm. All materials provided. Attend one or both sessions. No experience or skills necessary. Simply bring what is already inside you.

If you choose to, you can opt to work towards sharing your work with the public to invite them into what it’s like to be inside a brain injury. If you want it to be a private exploration, that is perfect too. You do not need to know which choice you are making before you arrive.

Not sure if it's for you? Art-curious participants welcome. A call to Lis to learn more is also welcome!

Maximum 10 participants. Please email me (Lis) at [email protected] to register or with any questions.

It's official!

Tickets are up for our first ever concert to benefit brain injury! Go to purchasing.yukonartscentre.com to get yours.

Join us November 14th for a night of Broadway tunes and popular favourites with Robert Pilon, his exceptional band and local talent (who will be announced)! We’ll be donning the outfits we wish there were more occasions to wear and invite you to wear whatever makes you feel fabulous. Come enjoy a photo booth, cash bar and celebrate LDAY (including and highlighting brain injury supports) during the reception before the show!

Let’s raise the profile of the experiences of those with brain injuries in Yukon (dare I say, bring them centre stage) while raising funds for more supports while we’re at it.

Spread the word!

Are you feeling overwhelmed by everything you need to get done? Is getting out the door on time feeling like an impossible task? Executive functions are the skills that help us get things done: planning, organizing, emotion regulation, impulse control and more.

LDAY offers a program called Finding Time to help adults and youth build their time management and executive function toolkits. Summer can be a great time to practice these skills before life gets busy in the fall.

LDAY's workshop coordinator, Leigh, is offering Finding Time summer intensives starting in July:
- 6-8 one-hour sessions over the summer (once or twice per week depending on your availability)
- Individualized, personalized program (participants meet 1:1 with Leigh, focussing on your specific challenges)
- For adults and older teens. Teens going into grade 9 or 10 must attend with an adult. Youth going into grade 11 or 12 may take this program either with an adult or as an individual depending on their needs and ability to work independently.
- Topics covered include the brain science of learning, planning and goals, emotion regulation, and task initiation.

For more information, call the office (867-668-5167) and ask for Leigh or email her at [email protected].
