TRAINING OPPORTUNITY!

Have you been wanting to explore a career in the trades but cost for training has been a barrier?

YWITT will be funding a limited number of spots for women and gender diverse folks in Yukon University's upcoming Carpentry and Welding Pre- Apprenticeships Jan 2027.

At YWITT, we are committed to decreasing barriers and increasing access to skilled trades careers for those navigating the trades via our bursary program.

Through our Work Gear fund we offer a one-time bursary to support applicants to buy tools, gear, personal protective equipment (PPE) or work boots. Whether it is a school program (pre-apprenticeship or apprenticeship) or for work, we can support you with a one time boost of up to 150$ for your gear.

The Penny Raven Bursaries are $500‐$1000 bursaries to be awarded to support education in technology and skilled trades by providing assistance to applicants in their quest for training at a recognized training institution. Each bursary will be designated on an individual basis and intakes are available three times per year (September 15th, December 15th and May 15th)

BBBSY Will be hosting a safety and awareness workshop for youth ages 13+ at The CGC Monday August 3rd,

Come learn some skills in a fun and interactive way, and hear from an expert in the field. And keep yourself safe in a responsible way.

We will also be providing some free snacks and beverages.

At YWITT, we believe in the impact of support & mentorship for those in the trades. We've built out programs, events, and services for those in the trades to network, connect with community, and access support throughout their careers.

Community meet-ups for tradespeople, their communities and families to build connections outside of work.

Leadership training programs to build up competencies and skills necessary for today’s worksite to attract talent and reduce turnover.

Pre-apprentice and trades exploratory programs are occasionally offered to provide introductory training and experience in skilled trades. Past programs have focused on construction, carpentry, and welding.

Our advocacy work focuses on promoting safer skilled trades and technology careers for all. Last year, we:

🐝presented at Yukon Women in Mining (YWIM) and Yukon Aboriginal Women's Council (YAWC) Community Safety Forum

🐝collaborated with Department of Justice in the development of their new Gender Based Violence training

🐝published the Doing it Right report with support from Government of Canada’s Future Skills Program

🐝ran the Healthy Workplaces Month campaign in partnership with Yukon Employee's Union (YEU)

🐝created social media content with evidence-backed insights
