Autism Yukon is hiring!

Do you have an interest in autism and neurodiversity and enjoy working with a team to help your community? If so, you may be the perfect person to fill the role of Administrative Assistant at our office.

This is a part-time position (15 hours per week). Some responsibilities of the job include;
-Welcoming visitors on the reception desk and helping them find what they need
-Answering phones and monitoring emails
-Data entry, filing and paperwork (including printing and photocopying when needed)
-Managing the lending library
-Light cleaning of both the office and Autism Yukon's sensory room
-Assisting with the Sensory Room when the sensory room coordinator is not available
-Helping to organize events and programs held at our office

This position starts at $25.00/hour. Autism Yukon also offers wellness dollars to staff to cover health and wellness expenses, a flexible working schedule, paid vacation and opportunities for further education on autism and/or intellectual disability.

Storytelling Workshop with Jaime Mellott!

The Guild is excited to announce a summer storytelling workshop series this July with storyteller Jaime Mellott!

The workshop is totally free and the series will culminate in a performance opportunity at the Guild’s outdoor venue Round Back! If you have an interest in storytelling and would like to learn more about writing and performing a piece, this series is for you!

The format is simple: develop a 5 minute personal story that is ‘true to you’. For some great examples of the form, check out The Moth podcast.

Over the sessions you will learn about:

Finding the seed of your story
Basic storytelling structure techniques
Voice, tone and intention
Performance

At the end of the workshops you can choose to share your 5 minute story at the Guild’s Round Back venue in a public performance. Don’t worry we’ll give you an opportunity to have a practice run before you hit the stage!

Workshop Leader- Jaime Mellot
Jaime Mellott (she/her) lives in Whitehorse, Yukon with her two sons, husband, and a very hairy dog. Jaime has performed a number of her original works at storytelling events in Victoria, Pender Island, and Whitehorse. Jaime facilitated her first storytelling workshop in August 2021.

Jaime began her career working with artists and non-profits. She co-founded the Artists Legal Outreach, which provides free legal advice to artists.

Jaime has lived in Whitehorse with her family and ridiculous dog since 2019.
