First Nation School Board - Yukon

We want to hold up and give a great big shòthän ndasindlā to our Land and Language Connector from St. Elias Community School who supported 2 FNSB teams in the 2026 Yukon Annual Hand Games Championship, hosted by Selkirk First Nation.
This was the biggest hand games event ever in the Yukon with 80 teams registered and 480 players (plus alternates and family supports).
Our FNSB families camped out together as they cheered their players on. Our teams played hard, engaged in their culture and had a ton of fun!
Special shoutout: one of our Learners from Watson Lake Secondary School was on the gold medal team!

Welcome back to our FNSB Learners, families and school teams!

Today is the first day back at school for Nelnah Bessie John School in Beaver Creek on White River First Nation Traditional Territory.

Tomorrow will be the first day for Learners in Eliza Van Bibber School in Pelly Crossing on Selkirk Traditional Territory.

Early next week, we will welcome back our Learners at Chief Zzeh Gittlit, Kluane Lake, Takhini, Grey Mountain, Ghùch Tlâ, Johnson Elementary and Watson Lake Secondary schools.

Our last two schools: St. Elias and Ross River, are back in session starting on August 31.

This past week marked another major milestone for localized, community-driven programming in the Yukon. We were honored to be joined by several foundational Yukon leaders- signatories to Together Today for Our Children Tomorrow and key pioneers behind the First Nation School Board (FNSB).
Yukon Powerhouse Knowledge Holders Alyce Johnson, Diane Strand, Dana Tizya-Tramm, and Mark Wedge generously shared their wisdom and experiences with FNSB staff and education representatives selected by Yukon First Nation Education Directorate from Nations across the territory. Together we participated in a dynamic negotiation simulation facilitated by The Gordon Foundation and mapped out core community-based priorities that will directly guide and shape the creation of localized high school courses.

We are hiring multiple roles at St. Elias Community School.

In the beautiful mountain valleys of Dakwäkäda (Haines Junction), St. Elias Community School is surrounded by forests, lakes and glacier-topped mountains.

We're looking for Educators to work with our youngest Learners, as well as individuals willing to jump into classrooms as a Teacher-on-Call. These people should be committed to culturally-grounded education and on-the-land learning.

This weekend Kwänlin (Whitehorse) celebrates Pride after a summer of community celebrations across Yukon. At FNSB, we follow our school communities' lead, like in Dakwäkäda where they hosted their first Diversity Parade, initiated by grade 11 youth Noah.
