Be kind to the heavy bags:
1-no shoes 👠 👟
2- wear gloves 🥊
3- wipe after use 🧽 🧼
Please help prolong the life of the new heavy bags.
When you kick the bags with shoes on, gravel and rivets from eyelets on shoes will cause small cuts that when later hit or kicked will grow longer and deeper. This DAMAGES the bags.
Wearing gloves protects your hands and keeps the bags cleaner. Sweat, microbes and bacteria build up when gloves are not worn.
Lastly, please wipe the bags down as you would other gym equipment.
THANKS EVERYONE!
Technical Sparring is an important part of Muay Thai. In Thai, the word for sparring, “len cherng”, literally means to "play techniques." That's the point. The word “light” doesn’t mean the opposite of power, but refers more to a sense of "lightheartedness” and “learning”. The Thai also use the term “sabai sabai” which means relax or chill. When the body is tense or egos are flexing it becomes harder to hone technique.
We are proud to announce that tonight, Gaius Lowe earned his Blue Prajiad. In Thai: ประเจียด, prajiad, is a type of armband worn by Muay Thai athletes. In the past, their use was to give confidence and luck to the athletes, and was usually made by a fighter's close family member.
Gaius did not earn this honour overnight.
Gaius started training at the age of 5. For NINE YEARS he has worked extremely hard, making many sacrifices! He trains 5-6 days a week, twice a day while preparing for fights. Waking up at 4:30am and hitting the gym to do pad work, then back that same evening to attend a 1.5-2 hour class. He runs to improve endurance, and practices combos and technique on his own bags at home. He has worked with multiple coaches and stepped in the ring several times - which is a huge accomplishment, and not something easy to do. Gaius coaches the kids class at Better Bodies, and is a great ambassador for the sport. This is what 9 years of committment, humility, and grit look like. In Muay Thai, the prajiad is not given away easily. It is earned through blood, sweat, and tears. Way to go, Gaius!
