Science, Picnic & Trolley Fun! โ๏ธ๐งช๐โจ
Yesterday, our little friends had an exciting day filled with hands-on exploration and fun! While waiting for our trolley ride, we started with the classic Soda and Mentos experiment, where our little friends observed an exciting chemical reaction, asked questions, and discovered how science can be both fun and fascinating.
After our science activity, we enjoyed a picnic together, giving them the opportunity to practice sharing, communication, independence, and good table manners while spending time with their friends.
We ended our adventure with a trolley ride around our community, where our little friends observed their surroundings, talked about what they saw, and experienced a different way to explore Whitehorse.
Every adventure is an opportunity to learn, discover, and create lasting memories. We are so proud of our curious little explorers! ๐๐

Science Week at Cornerstone Preschool! ๐งช๐ฌโจ
This week, our little scientists explored, experimented, and discovered new things through a variety of exciting hands-on science activities!
๐ Balloon Experiments
We started the week by exploring different ways a balloon can be inflated. Our little friends discovered that balloons can be blown up through different reactions without using our mouths or any tools. Using soda and Mentos, they observed how a reaction could create gas that inflated a balloon. We also explored the reaction between vinegar and baking soda, where the fizzing reaction produced carbon dioxide gas and created an even bigger balloon! The children practiced comparing results, making observations, and understanding cause and effect.
๐ Balloon-Powered Cars
Our young scientists investigated the question: โCan a balloon make a toy car move?โ The children built their own balloon-powered cars by attaching a balloon to a straw and taping it onto the car. When the balloon was released, the escaping air created a pushing force that helped the car move forward. Although the cars only moved a little bit, the children were excited to see how invisible air could create movement and explored concepts such as air pressure, force, and motion.
๐ Fizzing Colour Reactions
The children also enjoyed a colourful experiment using baking soda, vinegar, and food colouring. They watched as the ingredients mixed together and created bubbles, fizz, and foam. Through this activity, they learned that combining certain materials can create a chemical reaction that produces gas, causing the exciting fizzing effect.
โ๏ธ๐ง๏ธ Rainfall in a Jar
To finish our science week, we explored how rain forms using a jar of water, shaving foam, and blue food colouring. The shaving foam represented a cloud, and as more โwaterโ was added, the cloud became heavy until the colour slowly fell through like raindrops. The children learned that when clouds become full and heavy with water droplets, the water falls to the ground as rain.
Throughout the week, our little friends had opportunities to predict, observe, ask questions, test ideas, and discover answers through hands-on exploration. Science is all about curiosity, and our little scientists loved learning through play, experiments, and exciting discoveries! ๐งช๐โจ

More photos from our MacBride Museum adventure! ๐ป๐ธ
Here are more highlights from our fun and educational tour at the MacBride Museum. We loved exploring, learning, and discovering Yukonโs amazing wildlife together! ๐
Last week, we had an amazing adventure at the MacBride Museum! ๐ป๐ฆ
We explored the fascinating world of Yukonโs bears and mammals while learning about the wildlife that calls the North home. A big thank you to our wonderful tour guide, Brianna, for making our visit so engaging and educational!
Our little friends had the exciting opportunity to see, touch, and compare the skulls of a grizzly bear and a black bear, as well as feel the texture of their fur. They also learned interesting facts about these incredible animals, their habitats, and how they survive in the wild.
To end our visit, we went on a fun bear hunt around the museum, searching for hidden bears while exploring the exhibits. It was a hands-on learning experience filled with curiosity, discovery, and lots of smiles. ๐ฅฐ
Thank you, MacBride Museum, for such a memorable experience! ๐
๐ฟ๐ Yesterdayโs Learning Adventure at the Learning Garden! ๐ผ๐
What an incredible day of outdoor learning! Yesterday, our little friends visited the Learning Garden at Shipyards Park, where we were warmly welcomed by a wonderful garden educator who generously shared her knowledge and guided us throughout our exploration.
Together, we discovered a variety of vegetables, fruits, flowers, and the many living creatures that help our garden thrive. Our friends were fascinated as they learned about bees, spotted birds, observed different bugs, and even found caterpillars living among the plants. Every corner of the garden became an opportunity to ask questions, make observations, and build connections with nature.
One of the most exciting parts of our visit was bringing a few caterpillars back to the daycare for observation. This will give our friends the chance to witness one of natureโs most amazing transformations right before their eyes! We also learned that these caterpillars enjoy feeding on the leaves of blackcurrant and raspberry plants, so we carefully collected some leaves to make sure they have plenty of food while they are in our care.
Experiences like these help our friends develop curiosity, patience, responsibility, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world. Through hands-on exploration, they learn that every insect, plant, and animal has an important role in our environment.
A heartfelt thank you to the amazing team at the Learning Garden for making our visit so meaningful and memorable. We canโt wait to continue observing our little caterpillars and see what happens over the next few days! ๐
