Ornament making 2023. 🎄❤️

We have been a little quiet over here. Life has a way of happening. And, often when I am not sure which direction to take I tend to sit back and ponder until I’m ready again.

In the meantime …Christmas is coming! Avery and I had some fun making these sweet ornaments.

Playing with saturation today.

I needed a new Colour Meditation watercolour journal for myself so I finally tried out making the chain stitch journal. I’m pretty darn happy with it! 🤩

Willow the cat was my helper …or at least he kept me company. 😸

We really want to create a place for people to come, take a break from their hectic worlds and disconnect from social media.

A place for people to connect to themselves through creativity.

A place where they can feel comfortable creating without being critical of themselves. (Art skills are not necessary to play with art supplies!)

We need a place like this ourselves and we think others do, too.

We may not be ready to create this place full time yet (those darn bills) but we aim to build it one step at a time.

We hope others will make their creative time a priority, too.

Avery’s friend came and did some scraper painting some time ago. We were so inspired by her creativity in using a marker to transform her art (first photo). .

Also, we were lucky enough to have join us again for a class (last photo) …this time Scraper/Squeegee Art!

Week 4 is Art Week ...same as Week 2 (but July 24 to 28)! We have a lot of fun planned inside and out.

We have an outdoor table now so as long as it isn't too windy (art and wind together? not so much fun) we can set it up under our beautiful willow tree.

The unfortunate truth of owning and running a business.
Running a business is really hard.

What they don’t tell you is that it can cause severe stress and anxiety, and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid-back people.

People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore.

Friends and family will expect discounts and people will value you and your hard work less than a big chain store.

You have to worry about if you forget to email/message someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality you just can’t get to everyone’s messages and emails.

Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is just often no work-life balance.

You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner..... All while being a puppy parent, a husband or a wife, family support, friend...

There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in small businesses after 5-10 years. If they are successful they are overwhelmed.

It takes a toll. It’s freaking exhausting. Especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control.

Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives.

Be kind, be patient, support small businesses and hopefully more of us will stick around!

And know that 2022 prices are not 2023 prices.
