Scam Alert: Beware of Door-to-Door Roofing and Chimney Repair Scams

The Durham Regional Police Service is warning residents about an increase in reports of door-to-door roofing and chimney repair scams across the region.
In these incidents, individuals approach homeowners claiming they are working in the neighbourhood and have noticed damage to a roof or chimney. They offer to complete repairs at a low cost and convince the homeowner to allow them access to the roof.

Once on the roof, the suspects allegedly cause damage and then advise the homeowner that the repairs are more extensive than originally believed. They present a new quote, often worth thousands of dollars, for damage they claim was already there.

Residents are reminded to be cautious when approached by unsolicited contractors and to never feel pressured into making immediate decisions about home repairs.

To protect yourself:
• Be wary of contractors who show up uninvited.
• Obtain multiple quotes from reputable, licensed companies before agreeing to any work.
• Ask for references and verify the company's credentials.
• Avoid paying large deposits or cash payments upfront.
• If you are unsure about the condition of your roof or chimney, contact a trusted contractor for an independent inspection.

Anyone who believes they may have been targeted or victimized by this scam is encouraged to call 905-579-1520 to report the incident.

So amazing to see Whitby included in the "Netflix in Your Neighbourhood" feature about Canadian filming locations for Netflix films and series!

Whitby's historic Trafalgar Castle School was featured in Luckiest Girl Alive, starring Mila Kunis. The campus served as the fictional Brentley School, playing a prominent role in bringing the bestselling novel's story to life on screen.

Hospice care is about much more than medical care.

It's about caring for the whole person—providing comfort not only for physical needs, but also emotional, social and spiritual well-being.

That takes a team.

Doctors, nurses, counsellors, social workers and specially trained volunteers work together to ensure each resident receives compassionate, personalized care, while also supporting the people who matter most.

Because every person deserves to feel cared for, heard and supported.
