Queen Care 101: Hair Braiding Edition!

Trafalgar Castle School's Boarding Students were recently treated to a cozy "Queen Care 101" night with our Chemistry teacher Ms. Kate Kosakowski! From classic French braids to sleek inverted (Dutch) style braids, our Boarding Students spent the evening learning new techniques, sharing laughs, and perfecting their styles.

While weekends for our Boarding Students are full of adventure, weeknight activities like these are equally special. They give our Boarders a chance to unwind, decompress after a busy day of academics, and build deep, lasting friendships across grades.

Just as importantly, our students can connect with our teachers outside the traditional classroom in a relaxed, personal way. Seeing a teacher like Ms. Kosakowski swap chemistry formulas for braiding tips reminds our students that our Boarding community is truly a home away from home built on care, mentorship, and connection!

There were strong strides and huge smiles at HSC in Hamilton this week as our Junior Cross Country team took on their second race of the season!

We couldn't be more proud of our team's commitment, determination, and support for one another, both during practice and out on the course!

Congratulations to all five of our Grade 8 runners, who raced to first place and individually placed in the top 20, and to Grade 8 student Zoe R., who took 1st!

This past weekend, a group of Trafalgar Castle School teachers, along with 33 of our students from Grades 7 to 12, volunteered at the CIBC Run for the Cure Durham Region!

From cheering runners on and holding up encouraging posters to handing out water and photographing special moments along the run route, our volunteers brought energy, enthusiasm, and heart to every step of the event!

Their vibrant spirit helped create an unforgettable day while supporting an incredible cause. Thank you to each and every one of our volunteers!

Oh, the thinks you can think, and the lines you can link! Trafalgar is 'Horton' onto every cue!

Rehearsals are officially underway at Trafalgar Castle School for Seussical Jr., and our talented cast is already bringing the magical world of Dr. Seuss to life!

From warming up their vocal repertoire to polishing every step of the choreography, our students have been filling our castle halls with music, imagination and a ton of fun!

Trafalgar Castle School's Grade 9 students recently dug deep into a citizen science workshop!

Through sensory exploration and scientific testing, our Grade 9s investigated the health and composition of our local soil. Beyond gathering valuable environmental data, this hands-on citizen science workshop encouraged positive interoception, helping students slow down, connect with nature, and practice mindfulness.

It’s amazing to see how diving into soil health can nurture both scientific curiosity and mental well-being!

Trafalgar Castle School's Grade 4 and 5 students navigated the ultimate test of teamwork when they hit our Low Ropes course! Putting their determination and imagination to the test, our Grade 4s and 5s attempted to clear a tricky traffic jam on our 'Bermuda Triangle'.

Low ropes challenges like these are more than just outdoor fun. They're a powerful way for students to hone problem-solving and communication skills, build resilience and, most importantly, learn how to collaborate with others.

"Don't be afraid to change. You may lose something good, but you may gain something better."

Yesterday, our entire school gathered for Trafalgar Talks, Trafalgar Castle School's speaker series that provides our students with insight on a wide range of topics from professionals and alumnae.

The panel consisted of five Trafalgar teachers — Ms. Lesley Phillips, Ms. Sam Wainman, Ms. Leah Norman, Ms. Karen May and Ms. Penny Senior — who spoke about the importance of embracing the plot twists in your future and shared their personal experiences.

From the moments that defined their change in direction and how they handled personal setbacks to the opportunities that appeared when they altered their paths and more, our panel highlighted that success isn't about following a rigid script; it's about reacting to change, enjoying where you are today and keeping your eyes open when new doors unexpectedly open.

Trafalgar Castle School's Grade 10 Science classes took their learning out of the classroom and into the field, participating in a "Caterpillars Count" citizen science project!

By tracking local arthropod populations, our students collected real-world data to help researchers understand how climate change and land-use shifts affect local ecosystems—from native plants to migratory birds that rely on these insects for food.

Thanks to EcoSpark, our students are making a real impact on environmental conservation right in our own backyard!

Getting to explore the sounds that the mouthpieces of different instruments make is pretty cool. What's even cooler is when those mouthpieces were made by a 3D printer!

Our Technology Teacher, Ms. Penny Senior, used the school's 3D printers to create demo instrument mouthpieces that actually work! Thanks to Ms. Senior's creations, our Grade 7 students had the opportunity to try out four different mouthpieces, which will help them decide which instrument they want to learn.

While our students explored making the sounds, our Music teacher, Mr. Smerdon, taught the concepts, and the result really struck a chord!

Trafalgar Castle School's talented musicians were hard at work this past weekend across the Castle!

In one part of the School, our Castle Singers made a professional recording of Canadian composer Kathryn Parrotta’s piece, "One Ripple." Mark your calendars because the track drops on October 23, with proceeds helping fund our choir's upcoming trip to England! (Stay tuned for details on how you can listen and support!)

In another part of the school, our Castle Band took part in a music clinic, working hands-on with expert clinicians to refine their technique, build ensemble unity, and take their performances to the next level.

We are so proud of our students' dedication, artistry, and hard work!
