"There are experiences that give you memories. And then there are experiences that give you back pieces of yourself. I reclaimed parts of myself I had hidden away... Parts I'd forgotten." — Carol Schulte, Past Participant

Reclaiming the Feminine Elements at Hollyhock can offer you a direct antidote to exhaustion. 🌿

This retreat centers on the medicine wheel and the four elemental aspects within us: Earth Woman, Wind Womxn, Water Woman, and Fire Womxn. Rather than treating self-care like another item on a to-do list, Andrea guides you through Indigenous land-based wisdom, gentle ceremonies, and practices that help restore balance when your driven, task-oriented side has taken over.

Whether you are a woman carrying too much, a non-binary person wanting to explore your intuitive side, or a man looking to connect with your emotional nature, this space is open to all genders willing to slow down and do the inner work.

This is one of the oldest fruit trees on the Hollyhock campus. Ten years ago, our garden team decided they would preserve this Gravenstein apple variety by grafting a branch onto a root stock in the Orchard. The new tree is now thriving and producing! 🍎

"There’s a way to describe something from the outside, as though you’re separate from it, and then there’s a way to describe something from the inside, knowing that you are a part of it. Deep noticing opens us to seeing how separate things are deeply connected." Sarah Selecky from her book "Deep Noticing"

Most writing courses focus almost entirely on technique, plot outlines, and mechanics. While craft matters, it often leaves out the mysterious, intuitive side of story—the part that actually makes a piece of writing feel alive on the page.

In her program, Writing with Intuition: A Journey into Creative Consciousness, author and creative intuitive Sarah Selecky offers a different way in.

This 5-day retreat at Hollyhock is designed to help you integrate your analytical mind with your intuitive creative energy. Instead of wrestling with your inner critic or overthinking every paragraph, you’ll learn how to reliably access flow states using whole-minded practices.

SPACE STILL AVAILABLE ~ What if Thanksgiving wasn’t about a static story from the past, but an active, living relationship with the land beneath our feet?

For generations, Thanksgiving has carried a heavy colonial narrative—one that often obscures the true, ongoing stewardship of Indigenous peoples and the profound intelligence of our local ecosystems. This autumn, we’re inviting you to rewrite the script and reclaim the essence of gratitude through deep connection, respect, and presence.

Join professional chef Cheryl Chang and Indigenous knowledge keeper and Talaysay Tours founder Candace Campo (xets’emits’a) on Cortes Island this October 11–15, 2026 for Fall Foraging + Outdoor Cooking.

Instead of a traditional feast behind closed doors, spend this holiday by:
• Walking the forests and intertidal edges to learn Coast Salish history, culture, and land stewardship.
• Foraging for seasonal chanterelles, hedgehog mushrooms, and lobster mushrooms under the autumn canopy.
• Safely harvesting wild seaweeds and coastal shellfish with guidance rooted in Indigenous tradition.
• Gathering outdoors for hands-on, zero-waste cooking that blends wild, local ingredients with global flavours.

This is an invitation to slow down, observe before you harvest, and honor the ingredients that have sustained these shores for generations.

(Note: A 3-Day Tidal Waters Sport Fishing Licence is required for intertidal harvesting!)
Step out of the myth and onto the shoreline. Shift your holiday from consumption to connection.

This week, we had the honour of gathering with Klahoose First Nation and Cortes Island School for a meaningful Truth & Reconciliation event at Hollyhock Beach.

Canoes arrived on the beach, paddled by youth, bringing together generations in a day of learning, connection, and community. Elders and children shared songs, stories, culture, and a meal together.

It was a beautiful and meaningful day to come together in remembrance and to honour the survivors, families, and communities impacted by residential schools.

We’re grateful to everyone who shared their time, knowledge, culture, and presence with us. 🧡
