Self-Esteem vs. Confidence: The 5-Step M.A.G.I.C. Method

Confidence says "I can do this." Self-esteem says "I deserve to be here."

They sound alike, but they are not the same — and only one of them has no ceiling. In the January 2025 Toastmaster magazine, Greg Wood, DTM, AS, shares his 5-step M.A.G.I.C. method for building self-worth: move beyond self-limiting beliefs, add value to others, guard your self-talk, identify your one-word North Star, and compare yourself to you and only you.

Swipe through for all five, then pick one to practise this week. Self-esteem is the ultimate DIY project — but a club makes the practice a lot easier. Come visit us as a guest and find your confidence with us.

Our summer biweekly schedule has wrapped up. Starting Tuesday, September 1, Westmount Toastmasters meets every Tuesday again.

September meetings: Sept 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, 7:00 – 9:00 PM, Victoria Hall, 2nd floor
More meetings, more chances to speak, more feedback. Whether it's your tenth speech or your first time at the lectern.

Guests are always welcome. Come observe, no pressure and no fee. Relax, present confidently.

Shoutout to our club leaders making an impact! 📣
Our President, Ben Landry, and Carlos Martinez Serrano recently served as guest judges for the QAIS Public Speaking Run-Off at Selwyn House School. From what they told us, the competition was fierce, and the Grade 10 and 11 orators brought some serious talent to the stage! Congratulations to the winners and to everyone who competed.

Thank you to Selwyn House for inviting us to be part of this wonderful event! We always love seeing Westmount Toastmasters supporting public speaking excellence out in the community. 🥂🎤
