La première année reçoit son premier siddur ! Cette semaine, les élèves de première année ont célébré une grande étape de l’apprentissage juif, recevant leur premier siddur ! Mazal tov!

Grade 1 receives their first siddur! This week grade 1 students celebrated a big Jewish learning milestone, receiving their first siddur! Mazal tov!

La semaine dernière, l’équipe d’Akiva Robotics a eu l’occasion de rencontrer un représentant du Réseau express métropolitain ainsi qu’un ingénieur ayant participé à la conception et à la construction de la station Édouard-Montpetit du REM. Ils ont pu bénéficier d’une visite guidée des coulisses et découvrir les systèmes robotiques et d’automatisation, ainsi que les solutions d’ingénierie qui sous-tendent ce réseau de transport à la pointe de la technologie. Les élèves ont ainsi pu observer des applications concrètes des concepts STEAM qu’ils étudient et explorent à plus petite échelle dans le cadre de leur programme de robotique, et approfondir leur compréhension de la manière dont la robotique et la technologie sont utilisées dans une infrastructure à grande échelle.

Last week, the Akiva Robotics team had a chance to meet with a representative from the Réseau express métropolitain as well as an engineer who helped design and build the Édouard-Montpetit REM Station. They received a behind-the-scenes tour and learn about the robotics, automation systems, and engineering that power this state-of-the-art transportation network. The students were able to see real-world applications of the STEAM concepts they are studying and exploring on a smaller scale in their robotics program, and to deepen their understanding of how robotics and technology are used in a large-scale infrastructure.

Le service de conseil de l’école Akiva a présenté un nouveau programme de thérapie pour animaux de compagnie dirigé par notre conseillère scolaire, Shari Endleman, aux côtés de son chien de thérapie certifié Clifford.

Akiva School’s Counselling Department introduced a new Pet Therapy Program led by our school counsellor, Shari Endleman, alongside her certified therapy dog Clifford.

Cette semaine, à l’occasion de Purim, les élèves ont travaillé dans le laboratoire des langues autour du vocabulaire du carnaval et de Purim. 🎭
À travers des activités interactives, ils ont découvert de nouveaux mots, pratiqué leur expression orale et enrichi leur compréhension du thème festif des déguisements, des célébrations et des traditions. ✨📚

Today the students celebrated Purim by enjoying an incredible carnival organized and run by Akiva volunteers. They also made and traded Mishloach Manot, dressed up in costumes and watched a trilingual Purim show put on by the grade 6 students. Chag Purim Sameach!

🐾 New at Akiva School!

Our Counselling Department is excited to introduce a Pet Therapy Program led by school counsellor Shari Endleman and her certified therapy dog, Clifford 🐶 — a gentle, hypoallergenic mini labradoodle specially trained to work with children.

Pet therapy can help students reduce stress and anxiety, build emotional regulation, and strengthen confidence, empathy, and social skills.

Visits with Clifford will be optional, in small supervised groups, and accommodations will always be made for students with sensitivities or discomfort around dogs.

We look forward to meeting Clifford after the February break!

Dans l’esprit des Jeux olympiques et de nos Jeux olympiques de Francofête, nos étudiants ont été ravis de rencontrer un ancien patineur artistique olympique et parent d’Akiva, Craig Buntin. Les étudiants ont pu entendre parler de la vie aux Jeux olympiques et apprendre que le travail acharné et la persévérance peuvent rendre de grands rêves possibles. ⛸️ Une journée tellement excitante à notre école !

In the spirit of the Olympics and our Francofête Olympics, our students were thrilled to meet a former Olympic figure skater and Akiva parent, Craig Buntin. The students got to hear about life at the Olympics, and learn that hard work and perseverance can make big dreams possible. ⛸️ Such an exciting day at our school!

As part of the Akiva Bat Mitzvah program, the grade 6 girls baked challot. Shabbat Shalom!
