As an artist and psychotherapist, we have to talk.

Therapy is not neutral.

Even if a topic is painful to discuss, the therapist risks siding with the client's oppressor if they stay silent or choose to say "I am not complicit."

Cowardice is inconsistent with artistry.

It takes guts to go up on stage. But let's not lie to ourselves. Art IS and ALWAYS will be political.

Especially when you have power, privilege, and influence.

Ed Sheeran is not an , but hopefully he learnt that this week too.

We need people who do not look like us to have our back and if everyone has each other's back, we outnumber the racists.

Honour your ancestors. Heal your trauma. Fight for oppressed people everywhere and anywhere.

How su***des happen.

One of the most challenging topics is one of the most essential topics.

For National Su***de Awareness Week, we have to consider the systemic aspects of harm that contribute to su***de.

In Dr. Jason Arday's case we understand that anti-Black racism played a devastating role. Other white academics with worse allegations were faced with nothing like the over 240 articles and coordinated attacks toward him.

[For more information, read this article by Dr. Ibram X Kendi:

Jason Arday Faced 30 Stories in 12 Days from 15 U.S. Media Outlets. A White Colleague Accused of More Serious Misconduct Faced None

But we also need to take a look at the internal system, the neurobiological aspects, the complex trauma related intrapsychic elements that lead parts of people to think about self-harm and self-ending.

It's not easy, and it takes time, but in practice I have found that once we can get people to feel different they can think different.

The climate crisis is here.

From images of wildfires blazing in Canada, videos of floods in Nepal, what previously was seen as a distant fear, is now a present reality for a growing number of us.

Climate anxiety will become increasingly relevant for Western countries. Especially in our therapy sessions.

Personally, I have experienced floods living in an area that very rarely has ever had them.

This summer I had to choose which of the orange-overcast days were safest to bring my kids outside of the house.

The wildfire smoke we had in Canada this summer and fires that are still raging on throughout the world, are already causing people health consequences.

The anxiety is not just in people's heads, its in their daily realities.

So what can a therapist do about any of this?

In this weekly consult we will see how to help when words are not enough.

Sometimes the answer for anxiety may not be in the therapist's capacity for providing insight, but deep in the client's infinite creativity and lived experience.

Ever wonder why you feel numb?

Sometimes events are too terrible, too intense, or too much for us to deal with.

Dissociation helps us to cope with the horrors of trauma, deal with oppressive relationships, and allows us to literally survive through pain.

But what happens when coping gets in the way of enjoying our daily lives? What do we do when the dissociation becomes too much?

This is where complex racial trauma comes in and another approach from Rhythm and Processing (RAP) called resource integration.

In this consult, we break down how to assess dissociation using the MID-60 and apply Resource Integration to help clients process complex trauma safely.

Come join us. We have OVER 500 participants so far! Sign up today!

From Montreal to London, let's unite.

Join me as I journey across the pond sharing a message of mindfulness meditation, , and revolutionary joy.

We will gather and discuss my conceptual framework called Rhythm and Processing (RAP) where we can reduce the harm caused by racial trauma using music, video, and the infinite creativity of each and every one of us.

We can heal our suffering, cultivate our resources, and confront systemic racism.

Why does racism exist?

We need workable explanations.

Unconscious bias is insufficient. Telling people to be nice doesn't work.

If racism is so common it is because there is a benefit to its maintenance otherwise it would not spontaneously materialize.

Let's apply a systems perspective.

This Weekly Consult, let's understand the binary complex trauma cycle and see how it explains racism's function through a trauma-focused perspective.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
