taʔlí x̌ast t mrimstn̓ ! This x̌ast medicine is why we do this. Grouse’s immersion conversation filled our hearts. Itulaxw’s song made us cry and smile so hard our cheeks hurt. Xatus will be speaking for the children. Co-sharing today to balance out the hard work and tensions of online fluency building and front line language work within community.

Field trip! Traditional teas with the Barneses and Xatma ❤️ Our two cohorts are working hard on N2 and N3 on zoom. It was good medicine to take a day outside and learn from knowledge keepers. Love their learning space!

Final N1 evening class was impactful with deep feedback and tears. We reviewed previous lessons and watched a film of student N1 presentations for review. In this way, the students become the teacher. Very uplifting feedback. They felt uplifted and included and would like to have another series of beginner classes just like this one. One said, “This style of learning impacts me more than previous styles I have seen. When I was waking up in the morning thinking, “k’ek’niya” I know that I’ve retained language and it has been impactful.” Holding this space has touched their hearts. We reviewed where to find the learning materials, and shared feedback of where they are from, what brought them here, and what they would like to see in the future. We watched a film of the N1 students from the full time program giving their final N1 presentations, because now after four weeks, they are able to hear and understand some sentences. They expressed their gratitude to teachers who are also learners, Smuk̓axn̓, Ml̓qnups, Qʷilčn̓ and Sʔím̓laʔxʷ. They felt uplifted and held and heard, and everyone said limlmt and felt it in their hearts. It was a good day.

SD22 Indigenous students asked good questions! Fun to share a video of Grouse and our passion about language and our non profit business with other Indigenous entrepreneurs, teachers and youth.
