Are you looking for ways to help students with dyslexia truly connect with your lessons?

My sight word and irregular word lessons are intentionally designed with dyslexic learners in mind. Students with dyslexia need more than black-and-white words repeated on a page. They need meaning, structure, and clear strategies to help words stick.

These lessons go beyond rote memorization by:
– Explicitly explaining why words are tricky
– Connecting words to meaning and visuals
– Supporting orthographic mapping
– Reducing guessing and increasing confidence
- Use bright and colour-coded
- Designed for a child with dyslexia to feel success
- Designed with dyslexia-friendly font
- Plenty of white space for easy reading

When dyslexic students understand the logic behind words, reading becomes more accessible—and far less frustrating.

Understanding Dyslexia and Supporting Your Child Join us in North Vancouver at the Lions Gate Community Centre for an informative and welcoming parent workshop on dyslexia, early reading screening, and how to support your child at school. This session will provide clear, practical information to help families understand how children learn to read, what dyslexia is and is not, and what effective support looks like in today’s classrooms. The workshop will be presented by Alicia Smith, Executive Director of Dyslexia Canada, in partnership with Dyslexia Decoded. Hi everyone,

I wanted to share something new that I’m genuinely excited about.

Many of the students we work with can decode in session—but fall apart when it comes to home reading. Parents aren’t sure how to help, students start guessing, and confidence drops quickly.

To support this, I’ve created a decodable home reading practice booklet designed specifically for:
-early readers
-struggling readers
-students with dyslexia who need confidence-building success at home

The text is 100% CVC with short vowels only, so students can practice accurate blending without being pushed beyond what they’re ready for. The goal is not speed—it’s confidence, accuracy, and success. The last few pages have ccvc/cvcc words if you are looking for a stretch for your students.

This resource:
-gives parents a clear, manageable way to support reading at home
-Reinforces the strategies we teach in intervention
-supports orthographic mapping through repetition and accuracy
helps students experience “I can do this” at home, not just in session

I’ve also included a parent-friendly information page explaining how to blend CVC words and why staying at this level temporarily is so important for long-term reading success.
