Flower arranging is a beautiful hands-on activity that encourages creativity, concentration, and fine motor development. 🌸🌿

Children begin by choosing a vase, filling it with water, and carefully trimming each flower to the right length before thoughtfully arranging their bouquet. Once their arrangement is complete, they also decide where to place it in the classroom, giving them another opportunity to make meaningful choices and contribute to their learning environment.

This purposeful activity nurtures independence, confidence, and an appreciation for beauty while encouraging children to care for both nature and their classroom community.

Simple experiences like these inspire creativity, mindfulness, and joyful learning—one flower at a time. 💐

With the arrival of summer, our children have been making the most of the beautiful weather by spending plenty of time outdoors.
In the shade, they have been exploring the sandbox, working together to create imaginative worlds filled with houses, roads, neighbourhoods, and countless creative ideas. Through collaborative play, children develop problem-solving skills, communication, creativity, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

These moments of exploration, discovery, and connection are some of the many reasons we value outdoor play as an important part of the Montessori experience.

🎓 Celebrating Our Graduates 🎓

Last week, we gathered to celebrate a bittersweet moment at Treetops Montessori—our Graduation Ceremony.

For some of our children, this marks the end of their Montessori preschool journey and the beginning of an exciting new chapter in Kindergarten.

Over the years, we have watched them grow from young children taking their first steps into the classroom to confident, independent learners ready to embrace new challenges. They have formed friendships, discovered their strengths, learned to care for one another, and developed a love of learning that we hope will stay with them for years to come.

Although we will miss seeing them in our classrooms, we couldn’t be more proud of everything they have achieved.

Celebrating Birthdays the Montessori Way 🌎☀️

At Treetops Montessori, birthdays are celebrated in a meaningful way that helps children understand the passage of time and their place in the world.

During our Birthday Walk Around the Sun, the birthday child carries a globe and walks around the sun once for each year of their life. As they travel around the sun, we sing together and share photos from each year, reflecting on how much they have grown and learned.

This special tradition helps children connect their birthday to the Earth’s journey around the sun while celebrating their unique story and development.

At Treetops Montessori Preschool, children are introduced to sandpaper letters individually, following each child’s readiness and unique learning journey. ✨

By tracing the letters with their fingers, children are not only learning letter shapes, but also building muscle memory for future writing, strengthening concentration, and developing phonemic awareness through a hands-on experience.

In Montessori education, learning happens through the senses, allowing each child to explore at their own pace with confidence and joy.

The Importance of the Montessori Work Cycle

In a Montessori classroom, the uninterrupted work cycle is essential for children to fully engage in meaningful work. When children arrive on time and enter the environment calmly, guides can focus on presenting lessons and supporting each child’s learning.

During the work cycle, children choose their work based on interest while also being guided toward new challenges through individual or small group lessons. This balance builds independence, confidence, and a love of learning.

The uninterrupted work cycle allows children to develop deep concentration, strengthening focus, memory, and problem-solving skills.

At Treetops Montessori, children explore the world through their senses and careful observation. In this activity, a child is working with the Color Tablets (Box 2), refining their ability to distinguish and match different shades.

This material helps develop visual discrimination, concentration, and a deeper awareness of color in the environment. As the child carefully pairs each tablet, they are also building independence, attention to detail, and a sense of order—foundations that support learning across all areas.

Moments like these reflect the Montessori approach: allowing children the time and space to discover, practice, and grow with confidence at their own pace.

🐝 From Hive to Table: A Sweet Montessori Experience

Today at Treetops Montessori, our learning came to life in the most delicious way. As part of our exploration of bees—discovering their life cycle, understanding pollination, and observing the beauty of the hexagon shape in honeycombs—the children connected their knowledge to a hands-on baking experience.

Using honey, a natural product made by bees, the children prepared a special honey cake together. This activity offered rich opportunities for practical life skills, including measuring, mixing, and following a sequence, while also deepening their understanding of where our food comes from.

Beyond the process, there was joy in collaboration, concentration, and creativity. And of course, the highlight was sharing the cake during our morning snack—a moment filled with pride and delight.

Through experiences like these, children build meaningful connections between nature, learning, and everyday life. 🍯✨
