FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: The community interest and support for our childcare expansion project has been so exciting! We’ve been getting a lot of really great questions and thought we’d take the time to compile some of the most frequently asked ones here.

Q: When will the new centre be opening?
A: Although we don’t have an exact date yet, the new building is projected to open in late Fall.

Q: Will the addition be attached to the current building?
A: No – because of the logistics associated with sprinkler regulations for infant care, the expansion will be a whole new/second building.

Q: What will happen to the current building?
A: The current Wentworth Learning Centre building will continue to be used as it is now. The new building will have additional classrooms to increase our licensing capacity and allow us to offer childcare to a wider range of age groups than we currently do – it will not replace our current building.

Q: Where did the money for the project come from?
A: This 2.7-million-dollar project wouldn’t be possible without funding from Nova Scotia’s Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. As part of their Major Infrastructure Program – an initiative to increase access to affordable childcare across the province – we received 2.45-million-dollars.

To date, we’ve also generously received $60,000 from the Municipality of Cumberland County to contribute toward these project costs.

Q: What is the minimum age to enroll in Wentworth Learning Centre Childcare?
A: Currently, children have to be at least 18 months old to enroll in our program. This expansion will allow us to accept children as young as 6 months old.

Q: What is Wentworth Learning Centre Childcare’s capacity?
A: The expansion will increase our total capacity from 80 students to 121 – ranging in age from 6 months to 12 years old!

Q: How do I enroll my child(ren)?

FIND YOUR HAPPY: A new program presented by Maggie's Place happening Mondays this fall!

A space for women to train their minds to see the positive side of life. Together, you'll explore meditation, journaling, yoga, and daily acts of kindness to nurture balance, joy, and growth.

This program will run on Mondays from September 14 to October 26 (6pm to 7:30pm). A children's program will also be available during that time should you require childcare (pre-registration is required).

Bob, whose full name was Ralph Lorenzo Hunt, was born May 26, 1923, was a long-time Wentworth resident, married to Marion Barclay for over 64 years. He passed away in July 2012.

EXCITING NEWS: After a few delays and hurdles, construction is officially underway on our childcare expansion – now projected to open in November 2026.

Our toddler and preschool students have been loving their front row seat (behind the safety of our fence) to all the work being done in our backyard! From simply watching intently to narrating the work, to copying what they see on a smaller scale with their toys – the proximity of the construction has been providing wonderful opportunities to spark their imagination and play-based learning so far!

In case you missed it, we announced last April that Wentworth Learning Centre Childcare is expanding! Thanks in large part to funding from the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development’s “Major Infrastructure Program”, we are expanding into an entirely new building located behind our current centre. Our three brand-new classrooms will include two infant rooms with ten spaces each and a junior preschool room with 21 spaces. In addition to the 4 licensed classrooms in our current building, this expansion will bring our total capacity to 121 students.

NATAL DAY: As a reminder, the Learning Centre will be CLOSED Monday, August 3, to observe the holiday.

We will re-open Tuesday, August 4.
