Today, the children explored dinosaur eggs using hammers to carefully crack open ice balls containing small plastic dinosaurs. They strengthened their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and problem-solving abilities as they worked to uncover the hidden dinosaurs. The children also used magnifying glasses to closely observe and investigate the eggs and dinosaurs, encouraging curiosity, observation, and early scientific exploration.

A light table with dinosaurs is a great sensory and learning activity for young children. It can enhance:

πŸ¦– Fine motor skills – picking up, moving, and arranging the dinosaurs.
πŸ‘€ Visual tracking and observation – noticing the dinosaurs, colours, shapes, and details under the light.
🧠 Cognitive development – encouraging sorting, matching, counting, and comparing sizes.
βœ‹ Hand-eye coordination – placing dinosaurs and loose parts where they want them.
πŸ—£οΈ Language development – learning dinosaur names and describing what they see and are doing.
🌟 Imagination and creativity – creating their own dinosaur scenes and stories.
πŸ” Early science skills – exploring light, shadows, transparency, and how objects look different on the table.

It also encourages open-ended, hands-on exploration, allowing each child to investigate and play at their own developmental level.

This morning, the children took turns developing their fine motor skills through a fun dinosaur-themed activity. The older children practiced hand-eye coordination, grasp, and control by using tongs to carefully pick up and place small dinosaurs into a dinosaur tray. The younger children explored the same activity by using their fingers and hands to grasp, pick up, and transfer the dinosaurs. This activity encouraged fine motor development, coordination, concentration, and early problem-solving skills while allowing each child to participate at their own developmental level. β€οΈπŸ¦•

Jen's Early Learning Centre has 2 full-time spaces available (Monday to Friday) in Welland, conveniently located near Niagara College and Woodlawn Park. Any age available but preferably 11months and up (however younger may be accepted).

I hold an Early Childhood Education diploma, along with current First Aid and CPR certification. I bring 26 years of experience working in licensed childcare centres, as well as 11 years operating my home daycare.

As a private home daycare, I am unable to offer subsidy. I provide a safe, nurturing, and educational environment that includes regular outdoor play, creative activities, and structured circle time. Operating hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Please note that the environment is not peanut-free. I have a 12-year-old son and a friendly, hypoallergenic 7-year-old Shorkie who is present with the children throughout the day.

I am committed to offering monthly toy rotations, introducing new educational activities each week, and organizing community outings using my vehicle.
