There is nothing better than a Niagara summer night spent roasting marshmallows around the fire, but before you strike that match, let’s talk fire safety! 🔥🍢
To keep your backyard gatherings safe and fun, remember these rules:
📏 The 3-Foot Rule: Keep kids and pets at least three feet away from the fire pit or grill at all times.
🪣 Be Prepared: Always keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby before you even start the fire.
💨 Check the Wind: Don't light a fire on windy nights, and ensure the pit is clear of overhanging branches or structures.
💧 Drown It: When the night is over, don't just let the embers glow. Soak the fire with water, stir the ashes, and soak it again until it is completely cold.
Save this post for your next backyard gathering or weekend camping trip! ⛺✨

And that’s a WRAP on an absolutely epic week of summer camp! 🎉
As our first week comes to a close, we are looking back with so much gratitude for the incredible memories and friendships made right here at the Safety Village.
A heartfelt THANK YOU to Canadian Tire Welland and Jumpstart. Because of their immense generosity and shared vision, we were able to provide this entire camp experience completely FREE for our campers. This partnership ensures that children have the opportunity to learn vital safety skills and just enjoy being a kid in a safe, and fun environment.

Our first week of summer camp is officially UNDERWAY and what an absolute blast it’s been! ☀️
It’s hard to believe we are only two days in, because the energy at camp is already through the roof! Our campers started the week making new friends and immediately put those teamwork skills to the test with some epic team-building challenges and activities.
Yesterday we hit the streets (our miniature ones, of course!) to explore our police program and master the rules of road safety, and today we turned up the heat (and then cooled right back down) with our campers getting a hands-on look at how firefighters gear up, and work to put out fires!
Guiding them every step of the way are our fantastic camp counselors from the Youth in Policing Initiative (YIPI) summer program!
A massive shoutout and thank you to our incredible sponsors, Canadian Tire Welland and Jumpstart. Because of their amazing support, we’re able to give these kids a summer experience they’ll never forget.
Swipe through to see the smiles, the teamwork, and a whole lot of laughs from the last 48 hours. We are so grateful for our community partners, our leaders, and our campers. We can't wait to see what the rest of the week brings! 👇

Summer is in full swing, but so is the heat! Before you head out for a day of fun in the sun, make sure your safety checklist is complete. Protecting your skin and staying cool goes hand-in-hand.
Remember these important sun safety tips:
🧴 Apply and Reapply Sunscreen: Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Reapply every two hours, or immediately after swimming or sweating.
🧢 Cover Up: Wide-brimmed hats and UV-blocking sunglasses aren't just fashion statements, they are your first line of defense.
⏰ Timing is Everything: The sun’s rays are strongest between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Make sure to take frequent shade breaks!
💧 Hydration First: Drink plenty of water before you feel thirsty. Avoid sugary or caffeinated drinks, which can dehydrate you faster.
👀 Know the Signs: Heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, and headaches are warning signs that your body needs to cool down immediately.
Wishing you all a safe and sunny July!

With two Great Lakes and countless backyard pools in our region, water safety is a top priority for Niagara families this July! 🌊🏊
Before you head to the beach or jump in the pool, keep these vital tips from the Safety Village top of mind:
🔑 Have a Designated Water Watcher: Always assign a specific adult to watch the water with undivided attention. No phones, no distractions.
🦺 Lifejacket Logic: Lifejackets or PFDs should fit snugly. If you lift the jacket by the shoulders, it shouldn't ride up past the child's chin or ears!
🚫 No Running: Keep pool decks safe from slips and falls.
Let's make a splash, but let's do it safely! 💙
Happy Canada Day Niagara from all of us at the Niagara Safety Village! 🍁
Today, we are celebrating the incredible community we are lucky enough to be a part of. We hope your day is filled with celebration, laughter, and great company.
Wishing a sun-filled summer ahead for our entire community! ☀️🕶️
