Strive Niagara

Strive Niagara Through education and support, Strive Niagara empowers young families. There is a teacher and other students always willing to help with your courses.

Strive Niagara, formerly Adolescent’s Family Support Services of Niagara (AFSSN), is a non-profit, social service organization dedicated to assisting the needy by fostering the independence of young families pursuing an education through the provision of quality child care. Strive is geared towards supporting young mothers and their families as they work toward graduating from high school. We work on our courses at our own pace as well as in a group on a course we want or need towards attaining our secondary school diplomas. Each centre has a wonderful asset...a Community Worker, she is there to support you five days a week...no matter what the situation. She will facilitate programs and workshops in parenting, life skills, employment and post secondary preparation and a wide variety of programs that help us to reach our future goals. The daycare that is provided for our children is second to none. The staff is supportive and always there with a helping hand for you and your child. The atmosphere throughout the building is one of the greatest parts of this program. You'll never have to worry about being judged or looked down upon when you are in the centre. The supports we acquire while at school help us gain confidence in ourselves and our skills as mothers. They also give us the tools needed to get a good job. We also acquire a "family support" network that many of us would never have known if we hadn't of come.

Veggie Power on the Menu!

At Strive, we believe in introducing our little ones to a variety of delicious, nutritious foods — including at least one vegetarian lunch every week!

This week’s tasty creation? Honey Garlic Tofu Stir-Fry! Packed with colourful veggies, flavourful tofu, and a delicious honey garlic sauce, it was a fun way to show our kiddos that vegetarian meals can be healthy, satisfying, and oh-so-yummy!

Who says eating your veggies can’t be an adventure?

There’s something truly special about seeing little ones and older adults share a moment of connection.

Our Grimsby Earlyon Child and Family Centre recently had the joy of visiting the Grimsby Livingston Activity Centre. a local seniors’ residence, as part of their intergenerational programming.

From smiles and stories to laughter and shared activities, it was a wonderful opportunity for our children and seniors to learn from one another and build meaningful connections.

Intergenerational experiences remind us that connection has no age limit. They create opportunities for children to develop empathy, curiosity and respect, while seniors can share their stories, wisdom and experiences with a new generation.

A simple visit can create memories that last a lifetime. Their next visit is October 28!
Different generations. Shared moments. Meaningful connections.

Happy National Custodian Day!

When something needs fixing, something stops working, or we need a helping hand to keep things running smoothly — our custodians are the ones we call!

From quick fixes and maintenance to helping keep our Before & After School Programs safe, functional and ready for busy days, they’re always there to lend a hand.

They may work behind the scenes, but their support makes a big difference every day!

Thank you to our amazing custodians for keeping things running smoothly at Strive! We appreciate all that you do!

Today, our child care centres are taking time to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and to honour the children and families who have been impacted by the residential school system.

Across our centres, educators are creating age-appropriate opportunities for children to learn about Indigenous cultures, stories, traditions, and the importance of kindness, respect, and belonging. We are also taking time to reflect on the ongoing journey of reconciliation and our responsibility to continue learning.

We wear orange to remember the children who were taken from their families and communities, and to remind ourselves that Every Child Matters.

At Strive, we believe that meaningful learning and understanding can begin at any age. Through conversations, stories, reflection, and connection, we can help nurture a future built on respect, inclusion, and reconciliation.

At our recent All-Staff Meeting, we had the wonderful opportunity to celebrate some very special milestones — recognizing our incredible staff members for 5, 10, 15, and 20 years of service with Strive!

These milestones represent dedication, compassion, commitment, countless connections with families, and the many little moments that make a lasting difference in the lives of children and young families.

We are incredibly grateful for the knowledge, heart, and care each of these team members brings to Strive every day. Thank you for growing with us, supporting one another, and making a difference in our community.

Congratulations on these amazing milestones and thank you for being such an important part of the Strive family!

Shhh… it’s a STUFFY SLEEPOVER!

Our preschool educators hosted a very special sleepover at the Sven H Dohnberg Centre —and the guests were all of our kiddos’ favourite stuffies!

The stuffies checked in for the night, found their cozy spots around the centre, and had a BIG night of fun!

We’re pretty sure they’re going to need a vacation after this sleepover!

Today our hearts were full as our little learners from our Sven H Dohnberg Child Care Centre shared smiles, handmade cards, and beautiful artwork with the wonderful residents at Heidehof, our local nursing home. ❤️

Watching generations connect through kindness, laughter, and creativity was a beautiful reminder that even the smallest gestures can make the biggest difference. Our children were so proud to brighten someone's day, and the seniors welcomed them with warm smiles and grateful hearts.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this special visit possible. These moments of connection create memories that will be treasured by both young and old.
