Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, we celebrate the traditions, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples across Canada.

Meet Victoria McMahon, Shad2018 alum, medical student at NOSM University, and the first Indigenous person in Canada to receive a Chevening Scholarship.

From a sports injury that reshaped her path to a future in family medicine and urban Indigenous health, Victoria is building a career rooted in care, community, and compassionate healthcare.

You don’t need to arrive with all the answers.

At Shad, curiosity is enough to start. The rest comes through the people you meet, the questions you ask, and the moments that push you to think a little differently.

It starts with one question.

Then suddenly you’re on a campus you’ve never been to, surrounded by people you just met, thinking about ideas bigger than anything you expected from July.

Curiosity does that.

One month to go.

New people. New ideas. One unforgettable July.

Shad is almost here.

Three Shad alumni. One incredibly prestigious scholarship. 🐺

Eniola Atoyebi (Shad2024), Daniela Grottoli (Shad2025), and Ifechi Okwuagwu (Shad2024) have been named Wolf Scholars at the University of Toronto, selected as part of a cohort of just 16 students from across U of T's Faculty of Arts & Science, receiving a full tuition scholarship, living stipend, and four years of intensive leadership and enrichment programming.

These are the opportunities Shad alumni are set up for. We sat down with each of them to hear about their journey. Check out the full Q&As at the link in bio. 💙

Congrats, Eniola, Daniela, and Ifechi. This is so well deserved.

Nafeh's story highlights the impact that accessibility and inclusion can have on a young entrepreneur. At Shad, by removing barriers we can create opportunities for more young people to pursue their goals, share their strengths, and make meaningful contributions. And in Nafeh's story, go onto become the CEO and co-founder of Humine, a Toronto-based start-up aiming to revolutionize health research.

At Shad, it’s more than a month of STEAM, entrepreneurship, and discovery. It’s the people you meet, the ideas you build together, and the memories that stay with you long after July.
