"To have two titles recognized at this level demonstrates that we continue to be at the centre of the conversations that matter most to humanities and social sciences scholars,” says Mat Buntin, WLU Press director and publisher. “It tells me that our publishing program is closely attuned to the priorities of scholars in Canada, as these authors and their scholarship are at the cutting edge of their fields.”

“This book offers a powerful, community-rooted way forward for understanding and living our treaty responsibilities,” says Darren Thomas, Laurier’s associate vice-president: Indigenous Initiatives. “I have worked alongside many of the book’s contributors and am excited about what they have created to benefit our relations.”

Congratulations to editors Daniel Coleman, Bonnie M. Freeman, and Ki'en Debicki, on receiving a 2026 Canada Prize from the Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences! Selected by the Academic Council from books supported through the Federation’s Scholarly Book Awards, this year’s winning titles bring rigorous humanities and social sciences research to wider public understanding.

Written by members of Six Nations and their neighbours, Deyohahá:ge: introduces readers not only to the 17th-century history of how the Dutch and British joined the wampum agreement, but also to how it might restore good relations today. Congratulations to all the contributors! Link to the announcement in the comments.

What a way to end our 30th anniversary season! Last night, more than 90 people gathered at Russell Books, with another 20+ joining us on Zoom, for a spectacular evening with Susan Musgrave and Jonina Kirton. And a stunning open mic!

The room was full, the readings were extraordinary, and the sense of community was palpable.

As we close the season, I'm feeling deeply grateful. This year alone, Planet Earth Poetry featured 85 poets, plus another 20 of our own exceptional poets in our PEP Volunteers reading. That's over 100 voices sharing their creative work. It's an honour to serve this series.

Thank you to every featured poet, every open mic poet, all of our superb volunteers and board members, our weekly audiences and Zoom attendees, all of the publicists and publishers who send us poets, everyone who donates their time, energy, expertise, and money (thank you for all of your generous donations!) in support of Planet Earth Poetry. You all helped make this anniversary season so special. Poetry thrives in community, and what a beautiful community we have.

Thank you for showing up for poetry. 🙏
Happy summer, everyone!
See you in the fall.
Kyeren 💜🌈
