Meet the teacher! We are excited to welcome our old pal Mike Erb to the Waterloo studio. He still has a couple of spots open if you are looking to study drums with an awesome teacher! Don't delay!

Mike Erb has lived a life immersed in music since he began early childhood music lessons at the age 5. Proficient in piano, guitar, drums and basically any other instrument that you can hit or strum, Mike has spent his adult life working as a professional musician, spending equal time teaching, writing, recording and performing.

He and his wife Diana perform as the group "Twas Now", recording two albums - one of which received a Canadian Folk Music Nomination - and touring the country extensively. The pair owned and operated a private music & visual arts facility in Wilmot Township for 11 years before shutting it's doors in March of 2020 and relocating back to their hometown of Kitchener to begin new careers.

Mike is currently happily employed as Sales Manager at Folkway Music - a renowned fine fretted instrument shop in Uptown Waterloo, specializing in the sale, repair and restoration of vintage instruments.

Meet the Teacher
We are very excited to welcome Amanda Braam to the AJMS Waterloo team.

In 2024, Amanda released her album “Paper Cranes” alongside two music videos. She performs both solo and with her indie-folk band “The Paper Cranes”, known for their rich harmonies, crunchy chords, and catchy melodies. She’s also part of a jazz-folk duo “The Roundabout Dance”, and plays drums for the noise-rock band “My Angel”. She amassed a variety of performance experiences over the course of her career throughout Ontario, and has shared the stage with artists such as Fleet Foxes, Violent Femmes, and The Strumbellas.

She is also a songwriter with the community music initiative “The Lullaby Project”, which pairs at-risk mothers with a musician to write and record an original song for their children. .

Amanda was also the Musician In Residence at the Kitchener Public Library in high school, where she began learning about recording and mixing. She independently wrote and produced her first album when she was 17, was subsequently awarded first prize in the Dorothy Shoemaker Songwriting Competition. She’s been a featured artist at the KPL’s Produce:HER sessions, a songwriting/production workshop for women and gender-nonconforming musicians.
