On the road with Demian and Nina! 🚗🐾

Yesterday, Laurier Music faculty member and Master of Music Therapy Coordinator Dr. Demian Kogutek hit the road with his dog, Nina, heading to Perth, Ontario, for the Inspiration Symposium: The Heart of Music Therapy in Practice, October 2–4.

Demian will co-facilitate “Listening with Data” with Tian Ip, sharing hands-on ways to use electronic musical instruments and data analysis to support music therapy practice and track progress.

Wishing Demian an inspiring weekend of learning, sharing and connecting with the music therapy community, with a little canine company along the way! 💜💛

Meet Laurier’s Funk Ensemble — a brand-new ensemble making its debut in the Faculty of Music this year!

Led by Kelly Jefferson, one of our newest faculty members, the ensemble is already getting into the groove, and we stopped by rehearsal for a first look.

There’s still lots of music to make before they hit the stage, but mark your calendars for their first concert on Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m.

Faculty member and composer Matthew Emery recently travelled to Mississippi for the Southern Invitational Choral Conference, where approximately 450 high school singers came together to perform his piece Sing Your Song.

There’s something pretty special about seeing music written by one of our own faculty members brought to life by hundreds of young musicians. 💜💛

Congratulations to Matthew, and to conductor Ryan Beeken and all of the young artists who were part of this incredible performance!

A wonderful weekend on stage for Laurier flute instructor Dr. Laurel Swinden! 🎶

Laurel joined the Stratford Symphony Orchestra as featured soloist for a performance of Carl Reinecke’s Flute Concerto.

We love seeing our faculty sharing their artistry on stages throughout our communities and beyond. Congratulations, Laurel, on a beautiful performance! 💜💛
