Murasaki Matsutani is an eight-year-old pianist born in Tokyo, Japan, and moved to Waterloo, Canada at the age of two. She formerly studied with Olena Klyucharova for two years. She is currently studying with Michael Berkovsky and Coral Solomon. She has also worked with great musicians including Martin Garcia-Garcia and Ilya Itin.
She has won numerous awards in local and international competitions. She recently won the 2nd prize at the inaugural Nashville International Chopin competition in the young artist I category. She was awarded the 2nd prize in the under 12 year old category at the Jeune Chopin international competition held in Lugano Switzerland, in January 2023. She was the winner of Elementary Piano (grade 1-2) trophy in 2021 KW Kiwanis festival and Intermediate Piano (grade 5-8) trophy in 2022 Guelph Kiwanis festival.
