Ta da! Our newest installation is complete.
These gorgeous photos are of rock thin sections and represent the major rock types;
sedimentary (left) = oolitic limestone
igneous (center) = kimberlite
and metamorphic (right) = pelite
There is a limited amount of information a person can gain from only using their eyes to look at rocks. If you cut a 30 micron thick slice of rock and view it under a microscope, there is so much more information to gain! Under what condition’s that rock formed, what minerals the rock is made of, where it came from. This is all part of the study of Petrology.

We found some lost rock critters from the Gem and Mineral Show! If you recognize any and wish to reunite them with your family, please pick them up from the lost and found bin outside the museum office (EIT 2022).

Nothing like starting the day in the creek! 🌊
Our students suited up in waders and stepped into Laurel Creek to measure groundwater levels and stream flow. From splashing through the shallows to collecting real-world data, they got a taste of what fieldwork in hydrogeology is all about! 🌿🪣
