Math Coach in Waterloo and Across the Country

06/09/2026

What a great term for math tutoring! I am currently tutoring students within Waterloo Region and from Staten Island to Vancouver Island. It is so fun to see the light bulbs turn on in the students eyes as they begin to understand a linear equation or a deriviative. Thanks to the students for making my term.

Skills Canada Competition was huge last week! The Exhibition in Toronto held this national event to promote the Skilled Trades. It included competition for apprentices from across the country.

I met with dozens of people including 20 unions that represent, support and train groups for certification. We discussed the need for math training!

Training Math for the Skilled Trades:

Friday I will make contacts at the Skills Canada event in Toronto. I am looking to improve the success rate of apprentices with certification. Will build contacts from the unions, the apprentices and employers. Math makes a difference!

Skills Canada National Competition 2026

Next week is the national event for Skilled Trades. This year it will be at the EnerCare Centre in Toronto. I will be meeting with unions like CLAC, employers like Linamar, apprentices and future apprentices to talk about math training for the trades. Apparently math skills challenge apprentices to pass their certification exams. That's what I am here for!

Math for Trades at the Skills Ontario Competition.

This week I attended this event to confirm that I could help trades apprentices with math. The answer is a resounding yes!

The competiton brought hundreds of Ontario students to Etobicoke. This event promotes the Skills Trade by bringing together students and trades people from many of Ontario's trades. Potential employers like Bruce Power and Linamar plus unions such as CLAC and IBEW attended. The students got to see what their futures could be like in the trades.

On the second day, Guidance Counsellors from across the province met representing their school boards. We heard that jobs in the trades are increasing and the government is promoting the trades too. There is significant opportunity for people trained in the trades. I am developing a package for the trades math to ensure the apprentices will certify.

Will be fun to watch these people with technical skills succeed!

Today, the Waterloo Math Contest marking day is underway, with approximately 200 math educators, including myself, grading tests for students from kindergarten to grade 12. My focus was mainly on the Galois and Euclid tests for grades 10 and 6. The contest drew around 30,000 participants from multiple countries. It was a pleasure to connect with fellow teachers.

Making Math Moments 2026

02/26/2026

Last night I hosted my “Get Ready to Ace Math” event for local families and students.

We had a great discussion about how to build confidence in math, reduce test anxiety, and prepare effectively for quizzes and exams. I shared practical strategies students can use right away — from smarter practice techniques to simple mindset shifts that make a big difference.

Thank you to those who expressed interest and continue to support local education initiatives. I’m looking forward to running more workshops in the coming months to help students feel prepared and confident in math.

If you’d like to be notified about future events or resources, feel free to message me directly.
