🕯️On October 26th, vote to put an end to school board trustees rage-baiting parents and citizens.

Watch as current trustee — and Ward 5 Waterloo council candidate — attempts to draw me into giving my personal opinion on a man dressing in women’s clothing and wearing an exuberant amount of makeup to teach math to children in our public schools.

But I wasn't discussing any objection to this in my delegation - I used this example to show just how difficult it is to know where our money is being spent. For example: where would the funding for a "drag queen" teaching math to children come from? Would it fall under a math initiative, or would it come out of the “wellbeing” budget?

In fact, that was essentially the entire 15 minutes of questioning — an attempt to discredit a parent so that legitimate questions could be dismissed as hateful or uninformed - rather than using that time to solve the problems. This is pride.

Parents and citizens have every right to ask questions about the public school system that ought to serve our children and that which we help fund.

On October 26th, vote for:
✅ honourable governance
✅ transparent and responsible fiscal stewardship
✅ accountability for results

Kids are so cool.

I'm so proud of these kiddos.

Overcoming hate is hard.

I'm reminded of this quote from my youngest, during times like these.
I remember people do awful things to one another when they feel threatened. I'm sad we are in a place in society where I see so much disrespect and hurt so many toxic and untruthful rhetoric being thrown around, as if words and thoughts no longer mean a thing.

I know we can all do better at this 'society thing'.
Deep down, I know we can.

In the meantime, I'll continue to do as my youngest does: keep loving the best I can even when I don't like some of the things they do.

🕯️I commend these women for their composure. What a stellar example of discerning citizens standing up for children, their innocence, and their education.

When deciding which school board trustees to vote for this year, ask candidates where they stand on s*xually explicit materials being available in schools—including descriptions and images of butt plugs, s*x toys, and endorsing p**n as a “sugary treat".

It's a great follow-up to their talk about "inclusivity," the right to read, and why "one or two" parents shouldn't dictate what other parents' kids see at school.

I’m honoured to stand with every parent and citizen who is willing to protect our kids so we can get back to what schools are supposed to be doing well: education.

The WRDSB even has two French copies.

: Is this what you consider education?

Parents: Is this what you picture when you send your kids to school?
Do you consent to this being treated as education?
If not, you may want to start saying so.

Parents, remember:
You do not need a piece of legislation to tell you that you have rights as a parent.

Those rights are yours the moment you become a mother or a father. And with those rights comes a duty to protect.

Safeguarding our children should not require parents to pour their time and energy into fighting the very institutions entrusted with their education.

Enough with ideologies that put children in harm’s way.

It’s time to restore schools to what they ought to be: places where truth matters, freedom of conscience is honoured, questions are encouraged, excellence is pursued, and every child’s purpose is fostered.

Thanks to all of the parents of Waterloo Region doing the work to protect all kids.🙏🏼

The board’s definition of "parent engagement" is exactly performative. Instead of investing in authentic parent participation, they waste valuable time and resources attempting to shut it down.

This must end. Full stop.

Math and reading are foundational to the acquisition of other knowledge, so declining scores are worrying. Every twenty points is the equivalent of one year of learning, so 15 year-olds in 2025 are two years behind where they would have been in 2015 for reading.

Western civilization is rooted in the great texts of Athens, Jerusalem, Runnymede, and Stratford—and its maintenance requires deep, sustained focus on the written word of its authors.

The declines are doubtless muticausal, but overusing technology, abandoning traditional teaching, and an obsessive pursuit of social justice are obvious contributors.

But underwriting each of these maladies is the same root problem: it's become almost impossible to discuss them. For example:

- I tried to initiate discussion at the Parent (School) Council about reliance on Chromebooks at my child's middle school. The principal dismissed this concern out-of-hand ("It's the way the world is now—everything's on a computer.")

- I witnessed the Director of Education telling a parent "I'm not going to talk about this" and refuse to engage in discussion regarding concerns about s*xually explicit material available in school libraries. https://empowrconnect.substack.com/p/im-not-going-to-talk-about-this

- My attempts to have a discussion about lengthy land acknowledgements at another Parent Council were repeatedly shut down. Eventually the School Board ruled that Councils MUST perform these observances and parents CANNOT question them. This is just a small sampling of the speech restrictions imposed on parents (and taxpayers, mind you) at the Waterloo Region District School Board.

I'm running for Trustee to see if I can make a difference. I'm not sure I can, but not trying doesn't seem like an option anymore.
