Brown's were the target, BUT, it's not disappointing when you hook up with a nice acrobatic nymph eating resident Rainbow.

Fly fishing can produce some great results. If you are thinking of trying this style of sport fishing or just want a casting tuneup, then good instruction will shorten the learning curve and get you into some good fish like this before you know it!

The Galway cast. A great cast, as in the video situation where you have the wind coming in on your casting side in an open area and you don’t want to be “wearing” your fly. It’s an easy cast to learn. Just make two forward casts by rotating your casting arm to the forward cast position and keep the rod pointed out in front of you.
This is also a great cast when you might have a small opening in your back cast area. It allows you to see the opening and be more accurate in putting the “back cast” into the opening and then making a good presentation cast.

I shot this video a few years ago. It shows a good example of what happens to the fly rod and ultimately the fly line during a fairly long distance cast. (Winter is a good time to get out and do some casting practice)

It’s hard to believe, but the NRX LP steamrolled the competition once again to win our 2017 5-Weight Shootout. This is the fourth consecutive Shootout that this rod has won!

I think I've posted this before, but here is a quick little primer for the upcoming steelhead season on the essentials of a good skagit style double spey; one of two of our most used casts on the Great Lakes steelhead tributaries.

This worked like a charm on some nice late evening smallmouth that were attacking Hex duns about a week ago.

Never get tired of watching a nice brookie rise and "flip" for a dead drifted dry fly. The G.Loomis GLX "whisper creek" 3 wt is the perfect trout rod for these co-operative little beauties in Southern Ontario creeks.
