The Galway cast. A great cast, as in the video situation where you have the wind coming in on your casting side in an open area and you don’t want to be “wearing” your fly. It’s an easy cast to learn. Just make two forward casts by rotating your casting arm to the forward cast position and keep the rod pointed out in front of you.
This is also a great cast when you might have a small opening in your back cast area. It allows you to see the opening and be more accurate in putting the “back cast” into the opening and then making a good presentation cast.

I shot this video a few years ago. It shows a good example of what happens to the fly rod and ultimately the fly line during a fairly long distance cast. (Winter is a good time to get out and do some casting practice)
