Six incredible sessions flew by, and what an unforgettable summer it was. From giant creations and messy masterpieces to experiments, laughter, teamwork, and endless imagination, we made so many wonderful memories together.

One little tip: If your artist loves creating with paint, watercolours, markers, glue, or other wonderfully messy materials, we recommend placing a sheet of paper or cardboard between the pages while they work to help prevent bleed-through.

Can you believe we only have one more day in our final session of 2026!?

One of the best parts about child-led programming is that moment when the materials you set out become something so much more than you ever imagined.

Today, our campers noticed that some of our big trucks didn’t quite fit on the roads they were building. Their solution? They needed smaller cars!

So we brought out a bucket of smaller vehicles.

They built a road.

Wait… the road was dirty.

So they washed the road.

Then they added a construction zone so they could keep working. But now the cars were getting dirty, too!

And just like that, our campers had created a car wash.

Using our water refill station and bubble area, they worked together to wash almost every vehicle, and the road, of course! Along the way, they were practicing cooperation, turn-taking, rich language, problem-solving, negotiation, and figuring out how to share ideas and roles within their play.

And that’s some of the magic of child-led programming.

We follow the children's interests, notice what they need, and give them the space to take their ideas somewhere we may never have expected.

Today, we also offered two different art invitations alongside all of our other messy materials. Some children chose to do both. Some chose one. Some decided that neither was what they needed today and spent the entire session exploring something completely different.

And that is okay.

We know that every child is unique. Every child learns differently, thinks differently, and engages with the world in their own way. Their learning deserves time, space, and respect.

Sometimes the best learning happens when we simply step back, watch what they're wondering about, and give them the materials and freedom to take it from there.

And sometimes… it ends with a very, very busy car wash.

It was a soggy one, but that didn’t stop us from finding so many things to explore together! We embraced the rain, discovered new ways to play, and got a little messy along the way.

It was the perfect start to our Nature theme, especially with the rain mixing well with so many of our other materials! Today, nature was the mess experience!

We're just over a month away from our first week of preschool, beginning the week of September 13, with orientation meetings the week before, so we thought it would be fun to introduce ourselves with a few random (and slightly silly!) questions! 😊

As we head into our final week of 'the mess experience – 2026 edition', we've been taking some time to reflect on everything this program has become... and on a few materials that are ready for repair, replacement, or an upgrade to make the experience even better next year.

Three years ago, 'the mess experience' began as a way to give our preschool families one last celebration before Kindergarten while welcoming new families into our community. It was also created as an annual fundraiser to support our preschool through unforgettable, hands-on learning experiences. We are amazed at how much it has grown!

What began as a three-week program has expanded to six incredible weeks, with families already asking for even more. Originally created for children ages 3–5, we've discovered that children 3–8 years old absolutely love it. We've even had adults ask if we'll create a one-day version just for them!

As our program has grown, so has the wear and tear on our supplies. Some of our most-loved materials are simply used up each summer, while others have faithfully served us for years and are ready for retirement. (We're looking at you, canopy... this year's rain and wind certainly put you through the wringer!)

Over the coming year, we'll be fundraising for wishlist items to help 'the mess experience' continue to grow. Whether you have gently used supplies to donate or would like to make a monetary contribution, every gift makes a difference.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in this program. We are incredibly proud of what 'the mess experience' has become, and it's hard to believe our final camp is around the corner. Here's to one more week of making memories, and, of course, all of the messes!

One of the most meaningful lessons we can teach children is that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. At Happy Tots, we believe in planting seeds of compassion, empathy, and generosity from an early age by providing opportunities for children and families to give back to our community together.

Throughout the year, we collect donations for several incredible organizations that support individuals and families in need:

➡Hand-Up Cupboard (Warman)
We collect non-perishable food items year-round, with a larger community food drive held during the school year. In the past, our 4-year-old classes have even had the opportunity to help deliver the donations, allowing them to see firsthand how their kindness supports others. ➡Foundations Learning and Skills
We make regular deliveries to Foundations in Learning and are always accepting children's books (ages 0–8) that are in good condition. Sharing the joy of reading is a simple way to help children build strong foundations for learning. https://www.facebook.com/FoundationsLearningandSkills

➡NEW this year – Project Care
This year we are excited to support Project Care by collecting travel-sized toiletries and everyday essentials, including shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body wash, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dish soap, facial tissue, and other requested items. (See the comments below for their current wish list.) These donations are assembled into care packages for families experiencing unexpected and extended hospital stays, providing comfort during incredibly difficult times.

➡Bridge City Warmth
We collect new and gently used blankets throughout the year for Bridge City Warmth. These blankets are distributed to members of our unhoused community, helping provide warmth, comfort, and dignity during Saskatchewan's colder months. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61571356512888
