To honor Louis Riel Day this Sunday, Holy Trinity School celebrated our own Metis Heritage Week, leading up to today's activity: a Living Metis Sash! Different classrooms dressed in colors represented in the Metis sash and we all took a pic together. On September 29, we will observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a time to honor Survivors of residential schools, their families, and the children who never returned home. This day calls us to learn the truth about our shared history and to walk together on the journey of reconciliation. By wearing orange, listening to stories, and reflecting as a community, we show our commitment to respect, understanding, and building a future rooted in justice and healing.
We will also have a TRC walk throughout the school neighborhood to show our solidarity with our Indigenous brothers and sisters and with all Canadians as we are all treaty people.
On Tuesday, September 30, there will be no school all day, as part of honoring the solemnity of this day. Teachers will be engaging in self directed learning in professional development and learning in the areas of treaties, residential schools, and other First Nations, Metis and Inuit content that day.
