Orange Shirt Day at Wakaw School 🧡
To honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, our school gathered together around the fire for a morning of learning, reflection, and connection.
We were grateful to learn from our very own Ms. Goller, who shared teachings about the traditions of braiding hair and the meaning and symbolism behind the braid. Students and staff had the opportunity to listen, learn, and reflect together as a school community.
Orange Shirt Day reminds us of the importance of recognizing the experiences of Indigenous children, families, and communities, while continuing to learn about the lasting impacts of residential schools.
Days like today are an important part of our ongoing commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, not only through what we say, but through listening, learning, building relationships, and creating meaningful opportunities for our students to engage with Indigenous teachings and perspectives.
