What a great way to celebrate 52 years of Wainwright Children’s Centre!

It was nice seeing so many families and friends come out, enjoy some cake and refreshments, and spend a little time together.

A big congratulations to the winner of our cake competition, Cake #4! 🎂

Thank you to Pop & Bloom Balloons for the balloon and photo op set up.

And congratulations to our raffle winners, Tracie Plaxton and Morgan Jeffers! 🎉

Thank you to everyone who came out and helped us celebrate. We’re grateful to be part of this community and look forward to many more years of serving Wainwright families.

It’s been quite a morning in our community.

A Card of Thanks to the RCMP and everyone involved for handling the situation this morning and helping keep our community safe. We really appreciate the work you do.

With that behind us, we’re going to flip the script this afternoon and celebrate something a little more positive, 52 years of Wainwright Children’s Centre.

For 52 years, WCC has been a place for children, families and educators to come together.

So come join us this afternoon, grab some cake, check out the giveaways and spend a little time with us.

Tomorrow we’re celebrating 52 years of Wainwright Children’s Centre and the families, children, educators, and community that have been part of our story.

Come and go anytime between 2–5 PM at the WCC Main Building. We’ll have cake, giveaways from some amazing local stores, and a chance to stop in and celebrate with us.

Yesterday at WCC, we recognize National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. 🧡

We wear orange to remember the children who were taken from their families and communities, and to honour their stories.

Reconciliation is more than one day. It’s about continuing to listen, learn, remember, and teach our children with respect.

I guess this is my little ode to the people who have been part of the Wainwright Children’s Centre over the past 52 years.

As we get closer to 52 years of Wainwright Children’s Centre, I’ve been going back and looking through some of the old articles and from around 1974.

WCC was established on April 1, 1974. I’m not from Wainwright, so a lot of this is stuff I’m learning for the first time. It’s been pretty cool seeing how WCC got started and finding out who was involved along the way.

One thing that really caught my attention was an old memorandum called “From Your Child To Me.”

Different time, different wording, but almost 50 years later, the message still makes sense.

A lot has changed since 1974, but the families are still at the centre of what we do.

I’ll be sharing some of the old photos and articles from the 1974 Wainwright Star Chronicle as I keep digging. I’m sure there are people around Wainwright who remember some of this or have their own WCC stories and photos.

Big shoutout to the Wainwright Public Library and Portal to the Past for making all the articles easy to find.

P.S. If anyone has the first WCC yearbook kicking around somewhere, I’d love to see it!

Our new relocation is coming along! 🏗️

There’s still lots of work happening behind the scenes, but it’s exciting to see everything starting to come together. We’re looking forward to getting settled in and creating a space where our children, families and educators can feel at home.

We’re currently enrolling children 6 months to 5 years old.

We also accommodate BSS, Little Leaders and Pre-K at WES.

🌽🍔🌭 COMMUNITY BBQ! 🌭🍔🌽

We’re excited to bring our Wainwright Children’s Centre families and community together for a fun day at the Zajic Corn Maze!

Come out on September 12 from 10:00 AM–4:00 PM and enjoy some time with family, friends, good food, and of course, the corn maze!

We’ll have hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, pop, and water available for purchase.

Sometimes the best memories are made just getting together, eating good food, and letting the kids have fun. We hope to see you there! ☀️
