Martial arts gives a child a way to feel capable that has nothing to do with being the fastest, the smartest or the most popular. For a lot of children, that's a first.

It's World Mental Health Day.

Most adults are fine right up until they aren't, and almost nobody says anything in between.

If somebody you usually see at martial arts has gone quiet, or stopped turning up, that's worth a message. Not a big conversation. Just a message.

And if it's you — having one thing in the week that's physical, regular and full of people isn't a cure, but it holds a lot of weight. That's a fair part of why this room matters.

A child who has learned to listen the first time, wait their turn and finish what they started doesn't leave that on the mat. It goes to school with them on Monday.

The instinct is to fix it, or to tell them it's not a big deal. Both end the conversation.

1. "That sounds hard. Tell me what happened."
2. "What did you want to say back?"
3. "What do you want to do about it?"

Number three is the one. A child who gets to choose the next step stops feeling powerless — and that's exactly what martial arts gives them.

Hey Align Families!

Thank you to all families who have helped to contribute to our Book Drive by dropping off books, board games, and puzzles. We are so grateful for all of your amazing generosity.

If you haven't had a chance to drop off any books, board games, or puzzles yet we are still accepting donations until October 15th!! We will have our table out every day we are open so please come on by!

Flourish is a local registered charity helping provide nourishing meals and groceries to students in schools throughout Southern Vancouver Island. Their work is especially close to our hearts, as many of the children who train at our studio attend schools that benefit from these programs.

We will then open our doors to the community for our Book Fair on Saturday, October 17th from 9:00 AM–1:00 PM, with proceeds going directly to Flourish!

We look forward to seeing all of you our October 17th for our Book Drive!

Respect in a martial arts room isn't a formality. 🥋

It's the person who eases off when they're clearly stronger. The one who says well done and means it after being outworked by somebody half their size.

You can't fake that and you can't lecture anyone into it.

Martial arts is one of the only places adults still practice it on purpose.
