A new report from the Stoney Nakoda Nation brings Traditional Knowledge together with historical and contemporary landscape research to deepen understanding of the Tînda Mîmân corridor. 🏔️

Understanding the Tînda Mîmân Corridor through Stoney Nakoda Traditional Knowledge Project includes contributions from Mountain Legacy Project researchers Sam Bohlken-Hern, Claire Wright and Eric Higgs.

The MLP team contributed historical and contemporary landscape mapping of the Bow Valley, drawing on historic mountain photographs from 1889–1916 and repeat photographs from 2009–2014, along with analyses of land cover and wildlife-vehicle collision data.

Their results, figures and maps appear throughout the report, supporting the broader knowledge and perspectives shared through the Stoney Nakoda Nation-led project.

ES 480 A02: Q***r & Trans Ecologies is coming to UVic Environmental Studies in Spring 2027.

This advanced topics course brings q***r and trans theories into conversation with environmental studies, examining how heteropatriarchy and cisnormativity shape environmental thought and action while exploring the possibilities offered by q***r and trans ecologies.

What happens when undergraduate coursework becomes part of a museum exhibition? 🎥

Students in ES 381 / Writing 345 worked with the Climate Disaster Project and climate disaster survivors to co-create five micro-documentaries about the lived experience of climate change in British Columbia.

Those documentaries are now part of the Royal BC Museum’s refreshed Climate Change: Everything is Connected gallery.

Through first-hand accounts of wildfire, flooding and extreme heat, the films bring the experiences, knowledge and resilience of climate-impacted communities into the museum—and show how understanding climate change requires more than data and forecasts.

We’re proud to see the work of our undergraduate students reaching audiences well beyond the classroom. Congratulations to the students, survivors and Climate Disaster Project team who made it possible!

Prices subject to change seasonally. Free admission for personal attendants to assist visitors with disabilities or any other special needs.

National Truth and Reconciliation Week offers opportunities to listen, learn, reflect and consider the actions each of us can take toward reconciliation. 🧡

UVic is hosting events throughout the week, including workshops and conversations about Indigenous rights and decolonization, a book launch with Pacheedaht Elder Bill Jones and Karen Moe, a screening and Q&A with Indigenous Storyteller-in-Residence Richard Van Camp, the Witness Blanket in virtual reality, and more.

On September 29 from 1:30–2:45 p.m., the UVic community will gather at Centennial Stadium for Orange Shirt Day. Vice-President Indigenous Angela Jaime, Chief Robert Joseph, Indigenous Youth Poet Laureate Shauntelle Dick-Charleson and the Tzinquaw Dancers will join the gathering for reflection and learning.

This year’s focus asks us to remain grounded in truth and committed to action as we learn, reflect and act.

What can the history of food tell us about race, power and inequality?

On September 24, join award-winning author and legal scholar Andrea Freeman for a presentation of Ruin Their Crops on the Ground: The Politics of Food in the United States, from the Trail of Tears to School Lunch.

Drawing on more than 15 years of research, Freeman examines how U.S. food law and policy have shaped racial and social inequality, tracing the impacts of food systems from colonization to the present day.
