These tours are in conjunction with the opening of the Japanese Canadian Monument at St. Ann's Academy (839 Academy Close) on October 3rd.

DIS – displaced, dispersed, dispossessed brings together work from contemporary artists exploring the lasting influence of the Second World War on Nikkei communities globally. Through installation, video, sculpture-informed 2D/3D work, performance, illustration, and text-based practices, participating artists engage inherited memory, cultural continuity, and intergenerational experience

AHVS 372A Chinese Art and Architecture
✨ Registration is now open!

AHVS 372A is an introduction to the history of Chinese art of various media: painting, sculpture, costuming, architecture, and landscape architecture from ca. 5000 BCE to the fall of the last Empire, the Qing, in 1911. Particular emphasis is given to considerations of how Buddhism, Daoism, Confucianism, gender, and cross-cultural contacts shaped Chinese visual culture.

📚 AHVS 373A – Japanese Art and Architecture
✨ Registration is now open!

AHVS 373A explores the multimedia arts of Japan from neolithic times to the late 19th c., with special emphasis on religious art (Shinto and Buddhism); aesthetic tensions between local and foreign styles, media, and content; and gendered expressions of creative agency.
