To celebrate how fabulous groovefest is, we visited our own drag path to remind us all of why this event is so special to GEM.

Groovefest is an event meant to celebrate what separates one from western colonial standards. There should never be any rules to how you define yourself or your identity, and groovefest is a time for everyone to embrace what makes society unique and beautiful, despite what society may say.

Groovefest has created a legacy at UVic to reject what is “normal” or “acceptable”, and celebrate all things weird! We thank all the volunteers, staff, attendees, and performers who made this event so incredibly special this year ❤️

Groovefest is coming up and we couldn’t help but give you a splash of who you can see during our groovy, unforgettable night!

Ubezza Ramirez is the live-singing ‘Slaysian’ dive of Victoria, who is representing the rich Asian roots and community here in BC. Ubezza started doing performing in drag last May, and would love to see you at groovefest!

Today, international women's day, and as we approach the Feminist Empowerment Expo week, I invite you to reground yourself in intersectional feminist work.

There's still plenty to do, but as we build community, the work becomes more manageable and meaningful.
