For CEOs and investors, the opportunity is not simply to spend less. AI May Be Learning to Forecast Biology.

Astromech has raised $20 million at a $3.8 billion valuation to build what it calls a biological operating system. Its AI analyses genomic and evolutionary data to predict disease progression, drug resistance, genetic vulnerabilities and how living systems may respond to environmental change. The company is also studying 46 longevity-related genes to understand why certain species resist cancer or live significantly longer.

The potential is significant. Forecasting biological change could help researchers identify health risks earlier, develop more targeted treatments and prepare for emerging biosecurity threats. Instead of studying biology only as it exists today, scientists could begin anticipating how it may change tomorrow.

The challenge will be ensuring predictions are treated as hypotheses requiring rigorous scientific validation. If successful, AI could move biology from observation towards anticipation, giving humanity more time to prevent disease, protect ecosystems and respond to biological threats.

AI Agents Are Becoming the Largest Consumers of AI.

OpenRouter data shows agentic token usage reaching 7.3 trillion, a fourteenfold increase. Agents surpassed human token consumption in February and have since accelerated rapidly.

For business leaders, this signals a shift from employees occasionally using AI to autonomous systems continuously completing tasks. The opportunity is greater productivity and faster ex*****on, but also rising costs, security risks, and less visibility into how decisions are made.

The challenge is no longer simply adopting AI. It is ensuring every agent operates with clear objectives, spending limits, human oversight, and measurable business value.

AI May Narrow the Entry-Level Ladder, Not Remove It.

Anders Hejlsberg, creator of TypeScript and C #, challenges the idea that AI will eliminate junior software engineers. Without junior engineers, he argues, businesses eventually lose the pipeline that produces experienced senior talent.

Software development is changing from manually writing every line of code to directing AI agents, reviewing their output, and making higher-level technical decisions. However, supervising AI effectively still requires knowledge developed through practical experience.

Companies should therefore use AI to help junior engineers learn and progress faster, rather than removing entry-level opportunities altogether. AI may change how engineers develop their craft, but it should not eliminate the pathway through which that expertise is built.

AGI May Already Be Here. Just Not at Work.

At the Data + AI Summit, Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi argued that today’s leading models can already solve highly complex problems that challenge human experts.

Yet inside many organisations, AI still struggles with relatively ordinary business tasks.

The issue may no longer be intelligence alone.

It may be context.

A model can understand advanced mathematics while knowing almost nothing about a company’s customers, terminology, processes, permissions, or strategic priorities.

For business leaders, this creates a critical question...

If AI is already capable, what is preventing it from creating meaningful value inside the organisation?

The answer may lie in fragmented data, disconnected systems, weak governance, and information that lacks clear business meaning.

This shifts the responsibility of leadership.

They lack the time and context needed to connect information scattered across the organisation.

A context-aware AI could improve decisions, reduce coordination costs, preserve institutional knowledge, and help leaders recognise opportunities earlier.

But achieving this may require access to confidential strategies, employee communications, customer relationships, and board discussions.

That makes consent, cybersecurity, accountability, and data ownership essential.

The value of executive AI will not come from giving CEOs more information.

It will come from helping them exercise better judgment with the information their organisations already possess.

Stripe is reportedly nearing a deal to acquire OpenRouter for more than $7 billion.

OpenRouter provides developers with a single gateway to hundreds of AI models, enabling applications to select providers based on performance, availability, and cost.
This is more than a payments company buying an AI platform.

It signals a convergence between model access and financial infrastructure.

The opportunity for a single platform to combine both the intelligence powering an application and the payments it generates is significant.

Stripe could help businesses compare models, manage AI spending, avoid dependence on a single provider, and charge customers for agent-driven services.

As AI applications become increasingly autonomous, the companies controlling how models are accessed, measured, and monetised may become as important as those building the models themselves.

The next major AI platform may not own the intelligence.

It may own the rails connecting intelligence to commerce.
