Outstanding Alumni Recognition Evening

Wednesday May 13, 7-9 pm at Esquimalt High

Please join us in honouring 8 Esquimalt High Alumni who have made significant contributions locally, provincially, nationally and/or internationally. These individuals have made their mark in the fields of leadership, service, medicine, music, education, history preservation, writing and sports. It is the intention of the EHS Alumni Association to repeat this event every four years by soliciting input from all alumni members. - Bob Laidler, Esquimalt High School Alumni Association President

The following former students of EHS form the first group to be recognized:

Christopher Donison (Class of 1971) a composer, conductor, pianist and inventor, is currently the director of Music by the Sea, as well as a member of the National Arts Centre Board of Trustees.

Ambassador David Gordon Longmuir (Class of 1955) was a Deputy High Commissioner in India as well as Ambassador to Cambodia after his successful career in the Royal Canadian Navy, where he rose to the exalted rank of Lieutenant.

Dr. Alan Meakes (Class of 1963) started his medical career with the Canadian Armed Forces, where he was promoted to Lt. Colonel, before returning to Victoria to become the first intensive medicine specialist for both the Jubilee and Victoria General ICU’s.

Bryan Mee (Class of 1953) a long time teacher, principal and trainer of teachers – including in Ghana and Jamaica – was awarded the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 for outstanding service to the community.

Sherri Robinson (Class of 1960) is a fifth-generation Esquimalt resident, author, highly regarded Volunteer Archivist for the township of Esquimalt, and recipient of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal in 2012.

Lacuse Robert Warren (Class of 1958) executive member, founder and chairman of many First Nations organizations, devoted his life to the improvement of conditions for First Nations people, especially in housing, justice, education and civil and treaty rights.

Colleen Wilson (Class of 1969) is an author and has been a textile conservator with the Royal BC Museum and Archives (RBCM) since 1981, in charge of Collection Care and Conservation, ensuring that physical evidence of the past is preserved.

Tom Woods (Class of 1980), lifelong Esquimalt resident, firefighter, police officer, Canada’s National Team rugby player, Shamrocks lacrosse player, and founder of Esquimalt Ribfest, has given thousands of volunteer hours to raise funds for local charities and projects, such as the anticipated all-weather sports field at EHS.

The Schedule for the event:

7-8 pm Informal reception (light refreshments) in the theatre foyer

8-9 pm Formal recognition of the 8 Alumni members in the school theater.
