It’s my birthday today and I am celebrating with some special news!🎂

I’m still on a high from our watercolor retreat in France, and today, on my birthday, I can finally share the trip I’ve been quietly dreaming up for months.

We’re going to Greece! 🇬🇷

My family’s home country, the place that lives in my heart. We’ll be staying at a private resort on the stunning island of Zakynthos, where the water is impossibly blue and the days move slow.

Picture this:
🎨 Painting together by the sea
🫒 Long lunches of my favorite Greek dishes
🏺 Pottery and local art
🎶 Greek music drifting into warm evenings
💃 And yes… there WILL be Greek dancing!

Every retreat I host is special, but bringing you to Greece? This one is personal as it feels like inviting you to my home.

This week’s theme was painting in volumes while embracing play, and our group of artists dove right in. Immersing ourselves in our painting practice, the landscape around us, and a shared studio space inspired something special every single day. It all came together beautifully at our final art exhibition. ✨

To the warm, talented ladies who joined me in France this past week: the energy you brought from day one was pure magic. Thank you! 🤍

Thank you to our lovely hosts Sophie and Nico for taking such good care of us, and to our charming chef Damien for the most delicious meals all week (and for making my requested crème brûlée! ❤️).

And of course, thank you to for making these retreats possible, so we can gather, make, share, and fill our creative souls with so much more than we ever expected.

Five things I would say to you if you sat down at my table with a brand new set of paints.

You do not need more colors, you need to know what three of them can do together. You do not need the expensive brush yet, you need paper that will actually hold water. And you do not need more talent, you need to learn to read the shine on the paper, because almost every beginner frustration I hear about is a timing problem wearing a skill problem's clothes.

Here is the part that surprises people. None of this is advanced. It is just the stuff that never gets taught first, because it is not the exciting part. It is the part that makes the exciting part possible.

Pack my travel art kit with me!

This kit will help me create a variety of art in my sketchbook. I have dry mediums, wet, and will be able to paint on the plane, train and in cafes enjoying the beauty that France has to offer!

I waited a long time to feel like an artist and for years couldn't call myself one. Then something changed. I practiced a lot and started to really enjoy the art I made. I found the tools that I loved, the imagery that felt like me, and made art because it felt good. In that practice, my mindset shifted and is when I became an artist.

You will not feel like an artist until after you start. That is just the order it happens in.

The feeling is not the entry requirement, it's what grows out of the hours, one messy Tuesday at a time, until one day someone asks what you do for fun and you hear yourself say "I paint".

At that point, you ARE an artist.

Just paint! Even if you don't feel ready, the practice will help.
