Our John Horgan Campus Discovery Day brought together four post-secondary institutions under one roof: University of Victoria, Royal Roads University, Camosun College and British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). 
 
We welcomed future students, parents, families and community members who came out to explore programs and educational pathways, learn more about the institutions, ask questions about admissions, student supports and next steps, and attend Partner Spotlight sessions to get a closer look at their options. 
 
It was great to see future learners and their families spending the day at JHC, meeting representatives and exploring what their next step in education could look like.

Meet Kimberly Tholl, RRU associate faculty member, Doctor of Business Administration student, and now, Kelly Outstanding Teaching Award winner.

She loves supply chain management’s unpredictability. And she loves sharing her stories of career ups and downs in teaching International Business Operations and Supply Chain Management at Royal Roads.

In choosing Tholl for the Kelly Outstanding Teaching award, the Awards selection committee remarked on her openness to vulnerability and self-actualization as well as her work to bridge theory and practice to help students link their course concepts to real-world decisions and development.

Brooklyn Rudolph's winning design for the 2025 National Orange Shirt Day campaign, created in collaboration with Walmart Canada and Indigenous Proud, raised $795,578 to support Residential School Survivors and their families through healing and wellness initiatives, public education, and truth and reconciliation efforts.

“I’m beyond proud of this accomplishment,” says Rudolph, who, is a current student in RRU’s Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Practice program. “I hope to inspire students to use their voices and creativity to make a difference.”

On this Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, read how Rudolph is using her art to give back and support those on their healing journeys.

Brooklyn Rudolph was the selected artist to collaborate with Walmart Canada through Indigenous Proud’s annual design contest this year.

How are some of the world’s most popular podcasts shaping conversations about 2SLGBTQIA+ people — and what happens when misinformation and harmful stereotypes reach millions of listeners? 🎧

Join Dr. Jaigris Hodson, RRU professor and Canada Research Chair in Digital Misinformation, Polarization, and Anti-Social Media, for an important conversation about the role of podcasting in spreading anti-2SLGBTQIA+ rhetoric in Canada.

“Some of the world’s most popular podcasts boast a larger audience than mainstream media outlets like CNN,” Hodson notes. “This means that disinformation spreading 2SLGBTQIA+ hate and stereotypes matters greatly on these platforms.”

Based on research into anti-trans disinformation on The Joe Rogan Experience, Hodson will explore:

•How popular podcasts can amplify anti-2SLGBTQIA+ rhetoric
•How these narratives are influencing young men in Canada
•The role of disinformation in reinforcing harmful stereotypes
•What we can do to counter these narratives
