Courtesy will be extended - Respect will be earned.
The path to true self-discovery is not paved with comfort. Your identity is defined by what you focus on, and if you focus on what is easy, all challenge will be hard.
All who have come before you, those who have stepped outside their comfort zone with a solid commitment to learning and growing their capacity for resilience and strength; who have weathered the journey to create their future selves. Each will welcome you with courtesy as you start your own journey. But their ‘respect’ will only be earned when you demonstrate your genuine intention to embrace a similar path with complete integrity.
Respect will come when others witness your commitment (like showing up no matter what), your discipline (practicing with unrelenting focus), your willingness to be humbled (giving a level-10 effort and pushing through the pain regardless), and you shedding your ego (and learning from the value of failure).
Success, like mastery, is a journey, not a destination; the closer you get to it, the more you realize how far you are from it. It is at this point that the adventure, the discovery, the practice, the reps, and the process - that motivate you. They are part of your new identity. You inspire others, and you will have earned the respect of your peers.

Head - Heart - Hip Alignment

The alignment of the head, the heart, and the hips as a conscious physical state is a foundational requirement that promotes engagement of the kinetic chain for balance, stability, and power.

The hips can also encompass the concepts of the 'hara', the 'tanden', and the 'dantian'. Considered the vital centre of the body, our physical centre of gravity and the seat of our internal energy, namely our 'Qi' or 'Chi'.

When engaged—head, heart, and hip alignment, combined with the rooting of our feet into the ground, fascia loading, and a focused mental intention—all work together as a force multiplier against external forces.

Applying head, heart, and hip alignment offers benefits beyond martial arts; it also provides positive psychological and physiological advantages in situations that require high self-esteem or confidence, such as public speaking, job interviews, or other challenging scenarios.

3 Levels of Training

Level 1 - Occasional: (a martial artist by association only) - a once and a while drop-in Dabbler, results in repeated learning of limited content over and over again; like a reoccurring Groundhog Day. It's impossible to acquire self-mastery and mastery of technique at the occasional level of training.

Level 2 - Interested: (a martial artist in practice only) - once per week attendance results in learning more content, but without understanding the context and the related application of the techniques. Mastery of self and mastery of technique will be difficult and only possible in the very long term at the interested level of training.

Level 3 - Committed: (a martial artist in both practice and application) - twice or more classes per week, plus practice at home, results in an understanding of the content and its application (context), and mastery of self is achievable, and the beginnings of mastering technique are possible at the committed level of training.
NOTE: Only those who are genuinely committed will eventually learn the capacity to teach. And it is at the teaching level, where mastery becomes possible.

When a group of committed martial arts students choose to create a place of growth for those few among us who dare to face challenge and adversity as a way to promote virtue and peace, they become unstoppable.

Please pause to give respect and appreciation to our brave veterans.

Within each kata lives a historical book of knowledge that contains the deep wisdom of martial technique; a blend of the obvious, the hidden, and the secret.
As Hanshi Patrick McCarthy defines it, "Kata, is the single person representation of a two person fight"
