Have you ever considered signing up for a run but donāt know where to start?
Below, I share my experience of my first ever trail race (24km + 950 m elevation gain): the training, the prep and the event! š¤©
If you are or have been a Body Blueprint student, youāve probably emailed with me (Ally) at some point.
Iāve never considered myself a runner, and before this year, I had never trained for an event like this.
I always said āI hate running, Iāll never be a runnerā. Itās funny to think back on that... why did I hate it? Because it is HARD! It challenges your cardio, your muscles, your joints and your mental game.
I read a quote that said:
āRunning teaches you that the biggest obstacles are rarely the hills ahead, but the doubts within.ā
And that really resonated with me, because even just saying āIām not a runnerā, is a huge set back. Anyone can be a runner, you just have to be consistent, patient, believe in yourself and trust the process.
Here are a few things that helped me get started and a few things I learned along the way:
⢠Find running buddies! This may not be for every one, but personally, I wouldnāt have been stoked to run as often without having joined a Run Club! If even that sounds intimidating, then inquire first. Ask if itās beginner friendly and share your concerns before signing up. Youāll know if itās the right fit for you! Or, if you have one or two buddies you can rely on to make you accountable and set a time to run each week, it really helps.
⢠Figure out what time of day works best for you and make it part of your routine. I know that if I donāt run in the morning and I say āIāll just run this afternoonā, that likely wonāt happen.

Motivation doesnāt build consistency.
Motivation doesnāt help you achieve your goals.
The reality is that motivation is a biological state that fluctuates moment to moment based on what is happening in the brain.
Consistency is built by creating systems that make it easier to take action even when you donāt feel like it.
Thatās what youāll learn about in our new online CEC workshop:
The Motivation Myth: Motivation is Unreliable

At Body Blueprint, we provide trainers and fitness professionals with practical tools to assess movement, identify potential imbalances and demonstrate effective corrective exercises.
This video highlights a few exercises commonly used to address knee valgus (often called āknock kneesā), a movement pattern where the knees tend to collapse inward.
Many common movement patterns and postural issues can be influenced by factors such as muscle weakness, mobility restrictions and movement habits. While corrective exercise is not a one-size-fits-all solution, it can play an important role in improving movement quality and supporting long-term function.

What courses did you take with Body Blueprint?
I completed the Group Fitness Instructor course with Body Blueprint, along with Fitness Theory. I also continued learning beyond that to keep building my confidence and skills as an instructor.
Why did you choose Body Blueprint?
I chose Body Blueprint because of its strong reputation, but also because it felt supportive and welcoming right from the start. It didnāt feel intimidating, it felt like a place where I could actually grow and learn.
What was your biggest takeaway from your experience with us?
Honestly, how incredibly supportive and helpful everyone was. That made such a difference for me. On top of that, I learned how to properly cue, structure a class, and create an environment where people feel comfortable and successful. It really helped me step into my role with confidence.
What are you doing now with your certification or what do you plan to do?Ā Ā Ā
Right now, Iām continuing to build my experience by creating and practicing full group circuit classes at home. Ā I especially enjoy circuit-style formats because they keep participants engaged, moving, and successful at their own level.Ā
Do you mind sharing a personal experience about your journey as a fitness professional?
One of my favourite (and most challenging!) parts was filming my practice classes. It pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way. Watching myself back helped me improve my cueing, timing, and overall presence so much. It was a little intimidating at first, but also really empowering, and it made me feel proud of how far Iād come (and excited to keep growing).
