I stand boldly by this statement:
Rigid schedules HARM children.
Can we please normalize setting ridiculous schedules aside and allowing AMPLE time for children to do everyday tasks for themselves?
EMPOWER children by believing in them.
EMPOWER children with ample time.
EMPOWER children by understanding the process of learning how to open one's own snack IS valuable. Heck, it IS more valuable than ANYTHING an adult could possibly plan or lead.
"I believe in you."
"I trust you can do it"
"I am here, but I really don't think you are going to need me"
Rigid schedules that place unwarranted importance on "table time" and teacher-directed activities are doing a disservice to children.
The moments adults hurry children through hold the greatest value for children:
•getting ready to play outside
•playing outside
•opening their own snacks
•playing in or out
•deciding what to play (waaaaaay too many adults disrespect the value of an indecisive or "bored" child and jump in waaaaaay too soon to "fix" a moment for children when it does NOT need to be "fixed".)
