GROWING PAINS😳

Our little hedgehog Fluffy is quilling. She's losing quills like a toddler loses baby teeth...and it hurts!
She's been grumpy, hissy and does not want to be picked up! Not a happy hog!😞🦔

It has me thinking about how we want to protect those we love from pain or struggle; especially our children, pets, family, friends and perhaps clients.

🛑 We are physiologically wired to avoid pain. There's that primitive fight, flight and freeze response when we sense it's coming. We want to numb pain, ease it, not feel it, even come to fear it, perhaps to the point of avoiding circumstances that may trigger it. We definitely don't want to see others suffering with it.☹️

➡️Yet both pain and struggle are an inevitable part of life.
It comes with growth! 🆙

🦋A butterfly has to struggle and squeeze it's way out of the cocoon; or it's wings will not properly unfold and be filled with blood so it can take to the air. 🦋
🦔 And Fluffy won't grow, without losing some quills and producing a new set.💗

➡️There's that saying along the lines of "pain is inevitable, but the suffering is optional."

So; reach out for help if your pain is great; do not suffer in silence. If you are struggling through something right now, keep going, don't stop, you've got this! Push yourself out of the cocoon; for nothing great in life comes without a degree of struggle and discomfort. Be a 🦋...or a Fluffy! 🦔 😘

Give this a like if you're pushing on through! ♥️
And make sure you reach out for help if you need it.

I'm here to remind you of your courage and strength!!!!✴️

BALANCE.

✴️ I really needed to be down by the ocean today.

I have been struggling. 😔
I reached the bottom and the fuel gauge hit empty❗

I ignored life's feedback and messages, and just pushed through; tried to "be positive," and put on that smile of "I'm ok!" 😳

➡️Panic attacks, adrenal fatigue, diagnosed severe depression, PTSD resurfacing. Ouch!

❗No; this is not what "ok" is supposed to look like❗

✅In my self created, now forced, down time; I'm seeing the opportunity;

➡️Looking back at research on the impact of trauma on early brain development and physiology.

➡️Realizing that my life context or reference for what is "healthy" & "ok," have always been a bit wonky and skewed!

➡️ Acknowledging that the reality has been almost constant hyper vigilance, prolonged fight/flight/freeze response, and frequent states of disassociation.

❗Doing lots of work on myself, healing some of the trauma, and thinking I'm all done, well....that doesn't work.

♥️Life is a journey of constant growth and learning/unlearning. You're actually not done 'til life is done!

And as Socrates supposedly said "the unexamined life is not worth living."
What I would say is "don't get cocky and think you got it all figured out!"

Stay humble & embrace the lessons, all the lessons!

So...here I am down at the beach; inhaling deeply, letting go, praying to God, finding inner peace & getting that balance back.

➡️This beautiful mural was pure synchronicity. 💗

Do you love street art and murals too?

Where do you decide to draw that line and say "Enough!" to people or situations? A notorious "people pleaser", I tend to always think I need to adapt, change or maybe shift focus, and I have erased that line in the sand many times in the past. I now know it's actually not selfish to put yourself first, and decide to do what's best for you. It has made me a better person and definitely a better mum!
What have you walked away from and not regretted?

Every year at this time I experience mixed emotions around the changing season. I'm sad at the thought of shorter days, less sun and time spent outside; and yet I look forward to retreating inward, slowing down, warm blankets and hearty soups and stews!
What do you enjoy about the change from Summer to Fall, and do you find you embrace the change or resist it? Let me know in the comments.
