I have a 5-week class coming up on Tuesday evenings starting on February 18 in Wood Hall. This will be a great chance to delve into flow state, direct our undevided focus on to different aspects of music, embrace instinct, and find laughter and levity by staying in the moment and embracing imperfections.
Description:
As musicians, we open up when we make space for new sounds and silence. Using a mixture of musical games, theatre games, collective improv, and discussion, we will experience how musicality and connection flourish when editing and self-judgment are left behind.
Participants will be encouraged to explore their instinct, mindfulness, musical memory, relaxation, focus, flow state, and instrumental comedy!
All instruments (including singers) are welcome.
Gear Provided: Amps, mics, drums, a PA, and a piano.
Fee: $84 for all 5 sessions.

Thanks for the interview Jonathan Brenneman and Monday Magazine!
"Victoria’s Wes Carroll Confabulation play as much with gender roles as saxophones on new jazz album.
Recently signed, Wes Carroll Confabulation make a splash with socially-conscious new record Helium on Flatcar Records"
--> Go to Mondaymag dot com for the full write-up! (no news posts on meta these days) :/
Here are a few of the middle paragraphs...
---
"Even so, their new record Helium, promises to break new ground for the band, introducing new instruments like ambient slide guitars and vibraphones to the mix, which find good use weaving experimental arrangements between more traditional horn lines.
“Over the past couple of years I’ve been incorporating slide guitar into live looping,” says Carroll. “As for the vibraphones, I’d actually never played that instrument before but quickly learned that simple ideas add a lot to the mix. The haunting, oscillating sound of just a single note brings the mix to life!”
This choice of instruments also affects the mood, which Carroll says is by design, as is the title of the album Helium, a metaphor for a lack of groundedness pervasive in our modern era. “I wanted to explore the multiple levels in which the attributes of helium mirror capitalism’s dysregulating effects on us as individuals and as a society. I also liked the aesthetic of myself holding balloons on a fairly serious album cover.”

I’m awful proud to announce that Helium is out today🎈! This 9-track, personal album has been years in the making and spans different writing styles and times of my life. It's my first record to not include any instrumental tracks too. My heart is so full today. Big thanks to my family and friends for inspiring and supporting me. Also a huge thanks to the Vic music scene, Chris from Flatcar Records, Julian from Marrs Audio, U of T's jazz program, and all of the amazing musicians on this record. ❤️🎉
Also big thanks to the mega-talented SSeth Brooks Photofor taking hundreds of pics of me holding balloons over a couple of shoots! We were trying to capture the contrast of celebratory balloons and a serious expression which resulted in some funny pics! Thanks for your skills and patience ❤️ 😂 ... Add a caption. Which is your fav? Did we pick the right one?
