Our students stepped up to support cancer research and carried forward two incredible traditions! SMS Students took part in our annual Terry Fox activities, keeping the legacy of the Marathon of Hope alive and raising vital funds for cancer research.

We were thrilled to welcome the Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock team to campus! This inspiring group of first responders traveled across our region to raise funds for paediatric cancer research and support kids with cancer and their families.

In an extraordinary display of courage and generosity, our very own Grade 4 student, Stella, had her head shaved on campus to support the cause! To date, Stella has raised an incredible $5,223.36. We all gave Stella a huge cheer for leading by example. ♥️

Reconciliation isn’t something that happens on a single calendar day. It’s an everyday commitment to listen, learn, and take action. 🧡
For National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, our St. Margaret’s community is coming together across all programme levels. Our PYP students will be exploring stories of resilience through literature and learning what “Every Child Matters” means in age-appropriate ways. In MYP and DP, students will gather in the Creative Commons for homeroom reflections and discussion. Additionally, we’re providing bus transportation for our SMS students to attend the South Island Powwow together.
We invite SMS families to pause, reflect, and learn alongside us.

St. Margaret’s School is honoured to share that our Elementary School has earned a 9.8 out of 10 rating from the Fraser Institute, placing SMS as the top-ranked IB elementary school on Vancouver Island and among the top 2.8% of all elementary schools in British Columbia.
This recognition reflects the daily commitment of our students to be inquirers, principled, and caring members of our community, and the dedication of our faculty who nurture curiosity, courage, and a love of learning.
We are grateful to our families, teachers, and staff for the partnership that makes this achievement possible. Above all, we are deeply proud of our students. Their growth, character, and care for one another are at the heart of all we do.

Leading with Grit, Grace and Power! 📚✨

The Library Learning Commons is excited to unveil our newest book curation, centered around the themes of Grit, Grace, and Power. Come explore the collection!

Read below to hear from Ms. Sullivan on the inspiration behind this term’s reads:

“I was fortunate to travel with our SMS team to the ICGS Global Forum on Girls’ Education in Toronto this summer, where themes of grit and grace emerged throughout the keynote addresses and sessions. These ideas resonated deeply with me and strongly aligned with our school’s own commitment to Grit, Grace, Power.
As I opened the Library Learning Commons this September, I wanted to welcome our learners and leaders back with a collection of books celebrating women and girls who are athletes, artists, scientists, innovators, and pioneers—alongside picture books that introduce our youngest leaders to courageous and compassionate individuals and characters. Together, these stories highlight those who embrace new challenges, act with purpose and principle, persevere through setbacks, and make a difference in their communities.
As we prepare to embark on our Outweek adventures, my hope is that this collection sparks risk-taking, curiosity, courage, and connection—and reminds us all of what is possible when we lead with grit and grace.” — Janna Sullivan
