To be eligible for admission to TRU Law School’s JD program, international students must meet the following criteria:
-Hold a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
-Provide official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.
-Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.67 out of 4.33 or its equivalent.
-Meet the English language proficiency requirements. The minimum required score for IELTS is 7.0 overall with a minimum of 6.5 in each component.

-Provide two reference letters

Vancouver Island University's English as Second Language (ESL) program is designed for students who want to improve their English language proficiency for academic, professional or personal reasons. The program offers five levels of study, from beginner to advanced, with a focus on developing reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, as well as grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.

The program is 14 weeks long for each level and the tuition fee is $5,202 per level, depending on the level of study. Additional expenses such as textbooks, materials and living expenses should also be taken into consideration. The initial level is determined by a level placement test or the direct-entry IELTS/TOEFL/Duolingo scores.

To be admitted into the ESL program at VIU, students must meet the following requirements:
Complete VIU international student application
hold a valid status in Canada: visitor status for ESL courses up to 6 months in length or study permit for longer courses
complete a Vancouver Island University ESL language assessment test (or equivalent)

For students who do not meet the English language proficiency requirement, conditional offers may be available, which require additional language classes or completion of an English language course at VIU's English Language Centre.
